People can have differing politics. You can oppose immigration, have views on limited taxes, be tough on crime, support an Israeli state - you can believe all of these things, but you also MUST have empathy and realize that your political views are not an excuse for intolerable cruelty.

Funny, years ago I was at SPP and I was feeling uncomfortable about not being as cool as the philosophers. I did not feel “together” at all in comparison. It could also have been that I was very early career- like presenting my dissertation early.

I don’t care what you call it- investment in education, communities, and children will always have positive reverberations.

Sound contemporary literacy instruction could support young learners in becoming critical thinkers and information consumers, particularly in deciphering scripture as politics. Bible literacy is not a real thing- though I guess you could slap literacy after any term and make it so 🫠

I agree! I’m in the US (pray for me 🫠) so I’m not completely familiar with this legislation, but I think all of these attempts to control how we understand these digital spaces are futile.

I research all of this for a living, but I have a 12-year-old daughter that I am now experimenting with. I pretend to be an expert, but really she’s giving me an education and how we need to do this! I have a paper coming out soon about how schools should address this with very young kids.

I love this whole thread. No matter how you feel about these digital spaces, they aren’t going anywhere. We need to figure out how to harness them to bring about this curiosity and critical thought!
