This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

Cycle track through central Copenhagen

β€œWhile Mayor, I was often asked β€˜how have you been able to afford bike-lanes in #Copenhagen?’ I’d reply, β€˜how have you been able to NOT afford it? 25 years ago we were a few days away from going bankrupt. So the city invested in the cheapest infrastructure… bicycling.’” β€” @mortenkabell.bsky.social

Distributed decisionmaking is a key principle of pluralism.

The notion that we avoid consolidating power in the hands of one person has been at the core of our constitutional order for centuries.

To move us away from absolute monarchies.

Populists like Smith are openly ignoring those norms.

At this point, has Mark Carney made any decisions that Pierre Poilievre wouldn't? So far he's playing nice with Trump, promising massive cuts to federal programs so he can spike military spending, and passing multiple bills of dubious constitutionality.

An absolutely deplorable record so far.

CABARET JOKES ARE ANNOYING TO NAZIS' PROPAGANDA LEADER

BERLIN, Nov 25 -- Propaganda Minister Paul Joseph Goebbels is extremely annoyed over sly digs at nazi measures made by the more daring cabaret entertainers.

Sometimes they provoke roars of laughter at vaudeville shows with barbed remarks about certain phrases of the nazi program.

The annual join meeting of the "strength through joy" movement and the reich culture chamber today provided an occasion for Goebbels to vent his ire at what he termed "frivolous comment on serious affairs of the state.

"Why don't they make fun of the Jews?" he demanded sardonically.

A sign on a brown door reads "Room 426 - The Narwhal News Society v. Attorney General"

Carol Linnitt, co-founder of The Narwhal, flew to Vancouver in April, took a glass elevator up a glimmering skyscraper and entered a boardroom full of lawyers. There she was grilled, for hours, about details of The Narwhal’s press freedom lawsuit against the RCMP.

If it was, as per Michelle Rempel-Garner, Trudeau politicizing COVID vaccines and immigration, then measles would have outbreaks across the country. Instead it is concentrated in Alberta.

I think this whole thing exposed the two biggest weakness of the left: progressives being blind to their privilege and fighting over nothing at all.

In case that's not clear (again, I'm blaming the medium): I don't hold any grudge for our spat, I'm just frustrated with the medium.

If we had been discussing in person, I would have understood your point much faster, and a civilised discussion would have ensued. Same thing with Ximena's bizzare way of bringing up an important issue.

15.07.2025 15:57 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Most of what you're complaining about applies directly to your attitude in a bluesky spat we had a few months ago, before you finally explained your point instead on relying on telling me to read what you wrote... The common denominator is the medium if communication, which is mediocre.

15.07.2025 15:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Maybe we should stop pointing fingers at individuals and be a little lenient? Humans, writers or not, are not meant to communicate on a platform like this one. Mistakes and miscommunications are bound to happen. Blame the medium, protect human relationships, and move on.

Cyclists are not immune to that blindness. As a dirt cheap cyclist who has no choice to also drive half the time, I resent it sometimes. But my (biased) perception is that we are way less obnoxious than other groups, mainly because some cyclists actually are poor.

I think I understand the point you're trying to make, Ximena, but I agree with Tim that the way you approached it wasn't constructive. Progressive rich people are often very unaware of their privilege. I've encountered it with solar panel owners, electric car drivers, inner city folks...

Since the province seems to want to continue their overreach, I thought I'd give them some other pointers.

Head to StayInYourLane.ca to keep telling the province to stay in their lane, and back off on banning bike lanes!

If the parties on the left don’t pay attention to workers, the right will get on it. And I don’t blame workers for going where people acknowledge the value of their labour!

Zohran Mamdani’s victory should be a wake-up call to Canadian progressives Proving that people-first politics rooted in fairness, affordability, and real unity is the way forward

In New York, #ZohranMamdani built a multi-generational populist movement promising to freeze the rent, provide free buses, and establish publicly-owned grocery stores β€” and won.

Could that happen in #Canada?

Greenhouse gas emissions from Alberta's oilsands have also continued to set new records.

They hit 86.5 megatonnes in the latest National Inventory Report.

(By comparison: Quebec's *total* emissions were 78.9 megatonnes that year.)

Also, LaGrange is lying about the $110 per vaccine cost. This study, found with a five-second Google search, estimates the Canadian price at $43 Cdn. The study provides a cost-benefit analysis that shows it makes economic sense for govts to pay for vaccines.
