If you were to do it, it'd be pretty hard to go fully US based manufacturing and get any kind of scale/ be able to compete on price with DJI. But you'd think the government side would be willing to help subsidize the consumer end to build capacity.

Skydio was all in on helping get DJI restricted in the US, but they don't even sell to consumers anymore!

With the dominance of DJI in consumer drones, you'd really think it'd be an area ripe for innovation/competition. Maybe the market is too small. But especially since DJI drones aren't exactly easy to get anymore in the US someone would be working on it

I'd say maybe even the KC-46 but that whole program is a mess plus it's bigger than they probably need.

A P-8 derived platform seems like the natural choice- modern airframe, good range/endurance, more comfortable ride for the crew.

I'll admit I'm not fully up to speed on the program, but short of cost I find it hard to believe this is the best platform for the TACAMO mission.
