this is true, but an awful lot goes into immigration rising in salience; it’s not some natural phenomenon. we shouldn’t reckon with this as unavoidable but as the pretty clear result of an information environment awash in bad faith propaganda being entertained and amplified by legacy media

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

New Woodward High boundary options keep current Whitman, Bethesda-Chevy Chase attendance zones Attendance zones for Walt Whitman and Bethesda-Chevy Chase high schools would remain the same while those for schools such as Walter Johnson High and Northwood High School would shift.

MCPS is redrawing school boundaries before Woodward HS opens in 2027β€”while Bethesda-area schools will largely stay the same, high schools in Silver Spring will become even more segregated by class and race. bethesdamagazine.com/2025/10/09/w...

YouTube Settles Trump Lawsuit for $24.5 Million

Call me old fashioned but I think taxation should be based on how much money you have, and administered through a federal revenue agency. I do not think it should be administered through civil suits and based on whether your conduct makes the president sad or not. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/29/t...

SB 79 runs afoul of the principle of subsidiarity, which argues that problems should be solved at the most local level achievable. Families understand their problems better than neighbors, communities are better at directing their futures than cities, and so on.

SB 79 runs afoul of the principle of subsidiarity, which argues that problems should be solved at the most local level achievable. Families understand their problems better than neighbors, communities are better at directing their futures than cities, and so on.

Also, Los Angeles’ city government has had plenty of time to address its housing shortage and homelessness crisis.

It has not done so because *most of Los Angeles’ elected officials do not actually want to build housing.*

As such, SB 79 *is* solving the problem at the most local level achievable.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

New York, NY – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, candidate for Mayor of New York City, today announced β€˜Zohran’s Law,’ a plan to protect the city’s rent-stabilized apartments from being occupied by high-income individauls, ensuring these limited, affordable units go to New Yorkers who actually need them.

Under Cuomo’s proposal, when a rent-stabilized apartment becomes vacant, the incoming individual income would be capped so that the annual rent makes up at least 30 percent of that income. For example, if an apartment rents for $2,500 a month ($30,000 per year), the new tenant’s income could not exceed $100,000.

New York City is in the grip of a housing emergency. The city does not have enough units, and the drastically low vacancy rate is driving up prices, squeezing families, and forcing many to leave in record numbers.

In urban policy, it is considered bad for someone to be rent-burdened (spending at least 30% of their income on rent). But Cuomo's newly proposed law would *require* that people be rent-burdened. Absolutely insane.

lot of parallels here with twitter. Bezos doesn't have a vision going forward because the whole vision was to gut the post as a liberal bastion. generating revenue would be nice, but the real point was just to remove an obstacle to fascist consolidation.

I think the invasion hoax is just as much about the idea about criminalizing the domestic supporters of immigrants (the Democrats) who are β€œtraitors” and β€œtreasonous” for not wanting to shoot the β€œinvaders.” So they can square this circle with more insane triangulation
