There’s a strong consensus in the social sciences that nonviolence is more effective than violence. Look it up.

If you find it hard to believe, that might be because our culture is biased towards violent solutions.

Because you are living in a patriachy.

There is a lot of convenient amnesia about Peter Mandelson’s New Labour days. Let’s jog some memories | George Monbiot Yes, he betrayed the national interest in his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein – but also in his sanctioned role as enabler of corporate power, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It's disturbing to see how Gordon Brown has whitewashed his reasons for reappointing Mandelson, and his own role in eroding democracy. Mandelson's official business was similar to his unauthorised scheming with Epstein. Don't let them rewrite history.

A senior government minister has admitted our government broke the law in its complicity with Israel's war crimes.

This has been revealed in private messages now made public.

Government ministers must be held accountable for this.

Peter Mandelson's official role in Gordon Brown's government was actually not that far away from his unauthorised dealings with Jeffrey Epstein. This week's column digs up some inconvenient truths and suggests the problem is much deeper than we're told.

Rethinking Economics, the movement changing how the subject is taught Born of student disquiet after the 2008 crash, the group says it reshaping economists’ education

Great to see this profile of Rethinking Economics, the project to challenge neoclassical economics co-founded over a decade ago by @yuanfenyang.bsky.social, now a Labour MP. I hope its thinking now starts to permeate the Labour government more!

Will Ed Miliband approve oilfields he once called ‘vandalism’? Jackdaw and Rosebank have spent years in legal limbo — but the push for economic growth could prove irresistible

Nice of the Sunday Times to ask my opinion on this hot topic.

I am quite sure Miliband will not want Rosebank approved on his watch. We now know it could generate 254 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. The idea this will not cause significant harm is laughable.

The Integrity Gap: How We Built the Authoritarian Future We Fear Labour MP Clive Lewis argues that the collapse of public trust in Government is the product of corporate power being wired into the architecture of the state

Peter Mandelson isn't a glitch. He offers a glimpse into how Westminster works. The public already knows it. Now more politicians must face upto it - and act.

Read my 2025 article for @bylinetimes.bsky.social about the integrity gap at the heart of UK politics.

Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

"The #climate scientists we surveyed were unambiguous: current economic models can’t capture what matters most – the cascading failures & compounding shocks that define climate risk in a warmer world – & could undermine the foundations of economic growth” - Dr Jesse Abrams, @gsiexeter.bsky.social

William Nordhaus received the Nobel Memorial Prize for these flawed economic models, and Bjorn Lomborg built a highly lucrative career on them.
They told rich and powerful people what they wanted to hear.
While helping to consign us all to catastrophe.

Watching the usual political circus unfold.

Mandelson is now playing the usual lightning-rod role for an outraged political establishment. Little to no acknowledgement he’s the tip of an iceberg.

This is part of a political culture that’s pushing our democracy towards corporate oligarchy.

Palestine Action protesters not guilty of defence firm burglary The group are cleared of aggravated burglary over the alleged raid at an Elbit Systems warehouse.

We welcome today's acquittal of the 6 Palestine Action activists who had been charged with destroying equipment belonging to Israel's biggest weapons firm Elbit Systems.

This huge victory must lead to further acquittals and the end of Britain's complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza.
