Thank you to my amazing surgeon, Professor Drew, who not only did a fantastic job, but also gave me the agency and bodily autonomy to make the decision that was right for me.

I feel so privileged to have been able to have this surgery and though for a long time I had no idea how (or if) I would get there, to be stood, flat chested, one year later is something I will never take for granted.

The whole journey was so surreal, exciting, scary and, at times painful. However, aside from marrying my wife, it is the best thing that I’ve ever done for myself.

One year ago today, I was staying at a bungalow in Cornwall with my partner and my mother in law, alarm set for 6am, anxiously waiting for my life to change forever.

I had top surgery on 21/11/2024 and since then I have felt a freedom in my body that I cannot find the words to describe.

It feels so special to now, flat chested, be able to look through notes and know exactly how I was feeling before I ever knew top surgery was even an option for me.

Huge respect to Zelah for the way he handled this but let’s be clear: there is no 1 right way to deal with being the victim of transphobia. If he had shown more outward anger, this would also be valid and fair.

This incident doesn’t happen in isolation; our rights are being threatened and taken away, dangerous rhetorics are spread about us casually and it’s being normalised to dehumanise us. The culture is being shifted by Farage and other far right figures to spread hatred.

As trans people, when we experience transphobia we are expected to immediately comfort and reassure the perpetrators with phrases like “I know you didn’t mean it” and “you’re not a bad person” before even having time to process what we, ourselves have been through.

The news is depressing. The news is scary and I’m fed up with the news. As a trans person I am exhausted. I’ve been slowly getting back to real life after my wedding earlier in the month. It’s a harsh reality to come back to. Attacks on Trans people are getting more and more overt in society and in law. When it all gets too much I have to switch off from it. I look into her eyes and remember how loved I am. To fellow trans people: you are worthy of love, you know who you are and no law can take that away from you.

Okay so I’m very obsessed with the new Lucy Dacus song. But that’s not really a surprise. Unrelated but here’s my pet beetle whose name is Dacus.

First day since Tr*mp took office that I have felt a real sense of hopefulness for me and my queer siblings.

Being reminded that Queer Folk are here, have always been here and will ALWAYS be here is so valuable to us as we navigate the threats to our rights and lives.

Being reminded of the fact that there are so many people that have my back, even if I don’t know them well fills my heart with joy.

I feel like being around other Queer people is so important: always yes, but especially as we face this hostile political climate.

I performed today and it went so very well. It was at an event called Queer Coffee in Leicester. Honestly my favourite place to perform; such amazing people and good vibes

I cannot comprehend a LABOUR government sitting idly by and watching this unfold, much less trying to nurture the “special relationship” they have with the fascists.

As a trans person in the UK I feel so hopeless and powerless. I watch the news coming from the US and all I can do is post my thoughts on a silly app and write words on a page.
