Paul Krugman on Talking Feds today points out that the only place progressives, notably YIMBYs, want less regulation is housing (in order to solve the housing crisis), while Project 2025 explicitly wants no regulation on anything EXCEPT housing, in order to "save your suburbs" as Trump promises.

So I would say that I disagree with Paul here, the left wants to deregulate where it increases freedoms for those historically disenfranchised and the right would continue or tighten these restrictions. But what do I know I’m not a Nobel Laureate economist.

Another example being culture warrior conservatives want to regulate women’s bodies, regulate only heterosexual marriages, regulate gender affirming care.

Notably zoning in many cities is weaponized regulation often used by capital owners to maintain or artificially increase their capital value.

I think the difference is the type of regulation. The right wants to dismantle whats remains of pro-consumer regulations, while the left wants to increase protections.
