The Emergency Is the Atmosphere “It’s meant to exhaust us. It’s meant to destroy us."

"There just isn’t enough time. There’s only what we manage to make of it—what we build, what we protect, what we remember to carry to the car. The gas mask. The snacks. The question we forgot to ask. The name of the person taken." My latest.

A fascinating, and sobering, read

All these people really want is to pay no taxes and be treated with floor scraping deference. Everything else is just bullshit in pursuit of that goal.

Excellent indeed, and sadly reflects exactly how I feel.

“a seaside entertainer in a spiv’s suit doing exaggerated impressions of other world leaders, only those leaders are losers and incompetents too so he’s a pale copy of established failures.” And that’s just to pick out Fartage. Good stuff.

Bomb proof doors. Barbed wire. Coordinating with police. Community security service. Drilling congregants about the security protocol. Withholding the details of events publicly for security reasons. Always being on high alert. The list goes on.

And it’s still not enough.

What more can we do?

Rachel wearing very flimsy looking apron, mask and visor in NHS setting

Here I am in 2020 in the flimsiest, most pitful PPE - like so many other NHS staff, some of whom died from the Covid they caught in their hospitals.

Tory peer Michelle Mone - who today lost her legal case & must repay the govt £122m - dares to claim she’s been ‘scapegoated’.

What, Michelle? 🧵

Sarah Vine - who is apparently not “infected by ideology”. Dear God where to start? JKR supposedly ‘eviscerated’ Emma Watson, I read it as the ineffectual mewlings of a petulant has-been

So, someone got ChatGPT to write a memo arguing why it would be best for Britain if Nigel Farage was its next Prime Minister, and the upper echelons of the Labour Party political apparatus... bought it...?

The only way this could be worse if it it wasn't actually ChatGPT at all...

The big intellectual vulnerability both Reform and the Conservatives have is that they cannot decide where they want to land on 'governing for their ideology' versus 'governing for their voter base, which is older and therefore at the time of life when it takes up more government spending'.

Couldn’t agree more. So much wrong in this piece e.g. “You could argue that culture has been on an intellectual downward spiral since the Victorian era, when mass-market literature lowered the collective brow” - Dickens?

Figures suggest Angela Rayner’s mortgage got 8 times more coverage than the bribery corruption conviction of Reform’s Nathan Gill .

Now, why would that be ?

Yeah - exactly this - plus I misspelled the location. Should be Glen Creran - to be more precise: Fasnacloich. I note the stream is called Allt a’Mhuillinn which I guess is mill stream. I got the impression when I visited that it was a decorative folly associated with large house at Coilleveneach

I’ve heard it say that Nigel Farage has no less than seventeen nipples spread over his chest and back.

I’m, of course, not saying it’s true, but we have no evidence saying otherwise.

It could be true, we just don’t know.

That’s how this works, right?

Task is brilliant, isn’t it? Usually the viewer is one step ahead of the protagonist in terms of plot reveal. But Task keeps the viewer in the dark and reveals the story (and backstory) bit by bit. I’m loving it.
