Thor: Ragnarok was an acid cosmic road trip extravaganza and it was a blast. Now I want the next Thor to flip the script again.
As to broadening my horizons, Iβve seen almost 3,000 movies. My horizons are not at issue here.

I donβt want them all to be like Cap 1. Youβre not getting me. I want them to each be their own individual thing, rather than a big mass of house style designed to cross over. I want stuff as unique as Spider-Man: Life Story, which canβt happen if they all have to be part of some big plan.

04.12.2025 15:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Eh. Other than FF, which was excellent, I thought that visually and stylistically this year was pretty homogenous. I enjoyed TB well enough, but it was definitely Marvel Suicide Squad with little to distinguish it visually. What I want is stuff like Cap 1, which was a straight up pulp homage.

That was a damn fine whodunit, and even managed to be a rare movie that handles religious belief with respect while being neither preachy nor condemning. Josh OβConnor is the standout, but every last cast member brings their A game. Bonus points for using a great Tom Waits song. 10/10.

I do give Disney credit for the more appealing parts of the shared universe concept on film. Itβs just that at some point it became one-size-fits-all, not unlike the way everything in comics has to lead into an βeventβ book. What I want is individualistic movies not subject to the next crossover.
04.12.2025 05:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My favorite movie for every year of the 1930s:
1930: Animal Crackers
1931: City Lights
1932: Scarface
1933: Duck Soup
1934: The Thin Man
1935: Captain Blood
1936: Modern Times
1937: Make Way For Tomorrow
1938: The Adventures of Robin Hood
1939: The Four Feathers
Iβm unfamiliar with that meaning. In this case, I mean that Marvel is not a little guy that needs a hero.
And btw, First Steps is in my personal top five of 2025 and I own a stupidly huge hardcover of the first 20 issues of FF. I simply recognize that not everything Marvel does is worth praise.
Marvel is not that anymore. Marvel is now the most powerful comic brand on planet earth, and they donβt need fans to play white knight for them.
As to the rest, I in fact refer to the people who found my post about Doomsday and went on ranting attacks. I do differentiate them from more sane fans.
The funny thing about tonightβs brouhaha with MCU fanboys is that, on the same night I posted against Doomsday, I posted in favor of the MCU Spider-Men. Such nuances donβt matter to fanboys, though. You either worship every bit of the thing they serve, or you are the enemy.

03.12.2025 23:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0MCU:
First Avenger: pulp comic right out of the Golden Age, complete with reproducing the famous Cap #1 cover.
Ragnarok: acid cosmic road trip
FF: retro-futurism with an intense focus on family dynamics
Outside the MCU, many. The Nolan Batmen and Raimi SM each felt like that personβs work.
