Depends what you are maximizing for? If you are maximizing for the lock not getting cut, there is no substitute for a grinder proof lock. But they are heavy and expensive. Folding locks are much more convenient, but breakable if someone wants to steal your bike

I just got a new Tile to replace an old one that broke, only to find that the battery is no longer replaceable. The company's explanation for this is... Kind of psychotic!

Seems like healthcare lobbyists could kill the Big Beautiful Bill if they wanted to... But I guess execs wants that sweet sweet tax cut even if it means millions of patients lose access to care or a bunch of rural hospitals shut down

Ezra Klein, Andrew Sullivan endorse ranked choice voting - FairVote In an interview, Ezra Klein and Andrew Sullivan explained how RCV can deliver consensus winners who are accountable to a majority of voters.

Isn't Klein in favor of RCV?

Just because you have standing doesn't mean you win (or even get any meaningful relief). Frivolous litigation exists and the courts already have tools to deal with it. IMO it's a bigger problem that so much unlawful government action can go unchallenged because of standing doctrine.

I think the emoluments provision is not strong enough. Whatever strengthening of the emoluments clause were to happen should require divestment of outside financial interests and have a judicial enforcement mechanism that isn't reliant on Congress or the executive.

I did not know this about Wisconsin and it is extremely funny and absurd. My favorite thing I've learned this week, easily.

A whistleblower's disclosure details how DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

Oh dear you’re going to want to read this. Looks like DOGErs were caught exfiltrating NLRB data, likely on unions, for private (seemingly Elony) use. This is must read. What we’ve all suspected. But now details. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

Embarrassing that this lawsuit had to be brought by a handful of individual small businesses. What exactly is the point of the Chamber of Commerce if it can't bring itself to fight the single most significant and economically destructive government action of any of our lifetimes?

Just catastrophic. The Court is basically saying that the government gets to illegally terminate thousands of contracts at one time, with no individualized determinations, but litigants have to challenge the government's decision in piecemeal litigation. Brutally asymmetric.

Dems need to focus energy on bringing independents & Rs into the coalition to save American greatness. So far I don't see good evidence that Dems are expanding the map or the coalition in ways that are different from the patterns since 2016. And that's just not gonna be enough. /4

Dems winning the House without putting real pressure on the Senate is just not going to be good enough. If this country is in a perilous moment of crisis, it will take more than the 2017/18 pattern of Mobilizing The Resistance to set us on the right track. 3/

But what it did *not* lead to was Dems flipping any competitive Senate seats in less red places like Texas, Florida, Indiana, Missouri.

In my mind, a 15 point overperformance in special elections points to a continued national stalemate and Dems unable to overcome Senate geography. 2/

Here's my pessimistic-for-D's take on last night. The D special election overperformance seemed to be in the ~15 point range.

Go back and look at 2017 specials and that number is about the same. It led to winning the House and holding a bunch of dicey Senate seats in 2018. 1/

His platform is unparalleled. He could do a primetime address and people would pay attention. And he could credibly say that he isn't doing this because he wants to run for office or win any political power for himself. We need leadership & big moments *now* without waiting for elections. /4

SO. MUCH. RESPECT. to @booker.senate.gov for doing his best to use the tools he has to communicate the urgency of this moment, and the imperative for the American people to take control of our future. I wish we could see Obama meet this moment with that same urgency. 3/

There's much further we can slide and it will snowball so fast. This is a message that non-Democrats need to hear from him. The power to curb what is going on right now lies with the people. Not with judges, lawyers, or Democratic politicians. And it is urgent and cannot wait until 2026 or 2028. 2/
