District Judge Robert Gettleman's order is in. It compels the govt to return the named plaintiffs, in a new federal lawsuit alleging inhumane conditions at the Broadview, IL ICE facility, to the northern IL court district by Monday at 4 pm. (plaintiffs' attys said today they'd been moved to Kansas)

A Sun-Times legal rep said DHS could be liable for damages of up to $150k per violation.
New: a class action suit filed in Chicago's federal court this morning alleges overcrowding and inhumane conditions at the Broadview, IL ICE facility, as well detainees being denied legal counsel.

Statement regarding ice activity in Brighton park At approximately 11:00am a plainclothes agent arrived at rockstar fades asking about available services and mentioning that he would return at 1:00pm during his break to receive a service. However at 11:30am the same agent returned, accompanied by two other officers. The ice agents called for a worker, detained him, and threatened to detain anyone who attempted to intervene. At no points did the agents present a warrant prior to the arrest. This incident is deeply troubling and represents a blatant abuse of power. This is an unjust and horrifying act that violates the trust, dignity, and safety of our community members by tricking them into letting agents inside private property. If you are a property owner of a lot you can request that ice agents leave your property unless they can present a notice warrant signed by a judge. If you believe you see ice activity call the Illinois family support network hotline at 855-435-7693 or contact the 12th Ward office at 773-475-6783. Our staff is actively Responding to reports of ice sightings.

the agent came back half an hour later with two other feds and abducted someone, then threatened to arrest anyone else who stepped in.

IL Gov. JB Pritzker is asking DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and other ICE & Border Patrol officials to suspend Midway Blitz operations through Halloween weekend.
In Jan. 2024, Pritzker asked TX Gov. Greg Abbott to stop busing migrants to Chicago amid a cold snap.
Abbott's office rejected that request.
She also said during this presser that federal law enforcement officials estimate that they’ve arrested nearly 3,000 people since the start of the operation. Officials estimated they had arrested around 1,000 people just a few weeks ago.

Most ppl know that Chicago (home of modern urban segregation) is a very segregated place but I don't think most outside Chicago (+many Chicagoans!) understand how the *distances* involved and *depth* of segregation mean most white ppl have ZERO visibility into many Black and Latine neighborhoods

The federal government has petitioned this Court for a writ of mandamus directing the district court to vacate its October 28, 2025 order, which in relevant part requires Chief Gregory Bovino, a senior official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to “appear in court, in person,” every weekday “at 5:45 PM” “to report on the use of force activities for each day.” See DE146, at 1.1 As reflected in the attached order, the district court has denied the government’s request to stay that extraordinary and extraordinarily disruptive requirement. Id. Accordingly, the government asks this Court to stay that requirement pending this Court’s disposition of the pending mandamus petition and enter an immediate administrative stay. Indeed, without an immediate administrative stay, the daily appearance requirement that the district court imposed less than 24 hours ago will begin today at 5:45pm. Plaintiffs oppose the stay requests.
