I know we aren't supposed to like the dodgers but I love Rojas, Glasnow and Hernandez each specifically

I get I don't have in my history exhaustive library of encounters. But doesn't feel even like extension of the worst policing I've seen, and I've seen bad. This feels different effort entire, started from scratch with few rules and better tech and pushing boundaries of what can be gotten away with.

State violence isn't new. I know that. Have been near the continuum of responses to public protests - or, when a neighborhood has something to say - a lot of times at scenes where it's not a media event. Murders nobody gave a shit about but the neighborhood did. Range of police responses.

What historic reference for this. For the endless videos. For the schools on lockdown because - not because the police are outside chasing gunmen or whatever - but because there are convoys of men stopping people demanding papers and using chemicals to disperse anyone who presses them too hard.

Rogers Park and Albany Park. Bike patrols and gardening groups turning into neighborhood watch and meals on wheels. People peering into cars, ready to whistle. Whistles in Edison Park. A kid, well. He's 26. Backing down CBP in an empty alley alone in Back of the Yards as the convoy regrouped.

So of all the scenes and work over the years, nothing has felt so out-of-body as watching everything from the past month. Brighton Park, gas. Suppressive. Casual violence. East Side after they wrecked. Gas, because a kid hit someone with an egg.

I am doing a poor job of explaining. Sometimes would see something new at a scene but I would feel like I'd seen it before. I hadn't. But it didn't feel an outlier. Just different versions of hurt. Made sense.

Then, sometimes, something new or not would feel new. Outliers. Disorienting.

I guess. A murder end of summer 2020. There's a rhythm to all the work, broadly, and I accept a certain amount of that. Doesn't feel abnormal. Just, there. And sometimes still you're shocked. The last month has been different. Just feels unlike anything I have encountered. I know it is, in actual.

It's been maybe six or seven years since have felt this disoriented by events. At one place with one way of viewing and having to operate and be on point then the scene dissipates and you're back left with your world as it was just before, almost. This is different obviously.

Border Patrol officers detained several people while conducting immigration enforcement actions in Niles, Skokie, and the Edison Park neighborhood in Chicago Friday on Halloween.

This is one video I’ve seen circulating about what’s happening in Evanston.

Last couple things:

I didn't see anyone obviously from ICE. When I'm at these things I make a point of trying to find agency identifiers on person/vehicles/gear. Possible I missed it. But usually you see ERO patches, or other (Homeland Security Investigations) etc. Only CBP that I could tell.

Here, hand-written tags, one right shoulder strap, one left shoulder strap. (Bovino's body-worn camera is affixed in a place unlikely to capture interactions with the public unless someone is standing right in front of him. The others have placements more common to what officers normally wear.)

The uniform tagging wasn't consistent. Saw tag placement on both shoulders and different places on the bodies, and in some cases, written in black ink on white paper and taped to the strap of a vest cover. (This SUV was Bovino's; you can see the white tag on this agent's left shoulder.)

Here's "processing" as it were. In the parking lot west of Caldwell south of Jarvis. At the end, the agent in the tattered flag gaiter told a photographer they were done for the day. The prisoner van had a straw hat and neon vest on the dash. One agent said they were heading to Broadview.

Here's the second half of CBP walking him away. But the protesting continued as they were present and as they left. Whistles were at the end. I got the sense CBP didn't want to linger. Saw from BORSTAR and BORTAC here.

Here's a video from when this began. Was trying to record in front / watch in back. Moved off this when someone protesting made reference to owning a gun. They didn't take anyone protesting here but CBP made a show of putting cameras on people / press IDs.

The CBP helicopter was circling the convoy. Their chief was on scene but not in the mix. No resistance from the people they stopped. Longer on scene the more neighbors came out.

Moving in convoy + permitting a media tail and I couldn't discern a cause for this stop other than people were out front working. I didn't see anyone obviously from ICE but will check video again in a bit. 7400 N Oconto. After a couple minutes whistles (in Edison Park.)

Border Patrol grabbed workers from the front yard of a home in Edison Park this afternoon then took them behind an office building in Niles and passed them off to a prisoner van. Woman came out to MF them and said "you're in the most conservative neighborhood in the city and nobody wants you here."
