Once just before I moved to Toronto, it came up that a co-worker was also moving there. Another person was like "Oh fun! Are you guys gonna be friends in Toronto?" & he was like "Well it hasn't happened in 3 years here, so I don't see why it would happen in Toronto".

I think about that a lot.

Carla's 88 year old aunt is coming to her band's album release show tonight which is incredibly sweet because she's going to hate it.

Yeah, it's pretty nuts. Luckily I'm generally pretty careful, so it's pretty rare. I basically have to like eat a full cookie made of wheat to react that bad. But it does happen by accident so I guess it's good to be prepared?

Something I couldn't have told you before now is that drawing one old-timey Wright brothers-era airplane is pretty fun, but drawing many old-timey Wright brothers-era airplanes is a real exercise in diminishing returns.

It's pretty crazy right?? Both times it's happened Carla has been the only person with me, and it was super scary for her! I didn't even know this was a possibility!! It seems like it's not super common, but not unheard of.

I have to get an epipen because apparently fully blacking out is a thing that happens to me if I accidentally ingest gluten now, so that's pretty cool.

And depressingly, I really think that as this happens more & more, there's a very good chance that simple fatigue of litigating every video, etc will lead to people just giving up on the very concept of establishing or defending anything like a shared truth & then we're really in trouble.

This sounds stupid, I know, but when you actually think about it its infuriating because the mental calculus is more & more going to be about deciding whether or not shared reality/truth is worth caring & talking about in almost every area of our lives.

A weirdly specific thing that I'm just starting to be really mad about re AI is that more and more we're all going to experience people we love sending us videos, news, etc, & then we have to decide how to tell them nicely that it's not real, or if it's even worth it to do so.

Think Carrie Underwood & Jason Aldean, but with non-stop, demonic incantations in unholy tongues instead of backup vocals.

The hold music for my doctor's office plays terrible new country music, but today something weird was happening with the sound so that all the low end & quieter parts were filled with these constant deep, demonic growl sounds like in Kate Bush's Waking The Witch & it was honestly a huge improvement.

Just learned that a friend of mine who is a doctor is on her way to Gaza right now, and I'm honestly overwhelmed with admiration and feeling really emotional. ❤️

Carla's parents tried to teach me to play bridge once and it basically ended up being her very sweet mother yelling sequences of numbers at me *very* fast for 40 minutes while I pretended to know what was happening.

My friend's youngest kid recently asked her when they were going to a housewarming party "Is Paul going? The guy we all like?"

And now I'm pretty sure that's what I want written on my tombstone.
