Maybe this will finally make it clear to the people that have been fighting bike lanes, bus lanes, and other urbanism in NYC that they are basically MAGA useful idiots?

The Trump administration is once again seeking to meddle with our streets to make buses slower, worsen congestion and pollute our air.

@nyc-dot.bsky.social's insistence at using paint alone in these projects is implied permission for drivers to unilaterally reappropriate this pedestrian space into space for cars. Even when years are spent clawing back a few feet of street space from cars, DOT's real preferenxe for that mode shows.

@nyc-dot.bsky.social is *always* proposing short-sighted "solutions" on long timelines. This is why they're having to go back and widen a bunch of bike lanes on Manhattan avenues only a few short years after installation. There's no foresight and no ambition.

Buses on Hillside are moving! The new bus lanes work great.

Approximately 75% of households on the Upper West Side are car-free. Plus, 13,000 parking spaces in a neighborhood that's home to about 214,000 residents is nothing. This is an elected official listening to a loud and entitled minority and prioritizing the storage of private cars over public safety.

Why should a person on a bike get a criminal summons for traveling 16 mph, while the driver of a 5,000 pound SUV doesn't even receive a ticket for speeding at 35 mph?

Mayor Adams continues his war on biking with this backward rule — despite >90% of public comments opposing it.

You can put up signs saying BUS ONLY

You can write BUS ONLY on the pavement

You can paint the pavement RED

Nothing short of physical barriers will prevent drivers from using the bus only turn lane anyway. The only solution is automated enforcement, or perhaps some sort of car crushing machine.

Saying stuff like this should completely disqualify someone from being Speaker of the NEW. YORK. CITY. Council.

Anyway if you’re still a Democrat supporting Eric Adams at this point - and I know some exist - get totally lost.

Ridership on bus routes that serve Hillside Avenue in Queens alone would be the 18th largest transit system in the United States. Evidence that the bus lanes that @nyc-dot.bsky.social is installing this summer are essential infrastructure.

This bike lane didn't make Bedford worse for anyone, not drivers, not pedestrians, not people parking their cars, all it did was improve safety. That alone is enough to be contrary to the mission of Adams and his death cult sycophants.

Eric Adams is fine with drivers killing kids. He doesn't see enforcement of traffic laws as a valuable function of his administration. And everyone in New York City is less safe because of this.

There is no way to make bike infrastructure safe enough for these people because fundamentally they hate cyclists and don't believe they should have any space in the city.

It's clear that, despite these lies, safety is not a priority, let alone the top priority, of Adams, @nycdot.bsky.social, or a whole cohort of Brooklyn Democrats that constantly enable reckless drivers.

When anti-livable streets groups tell us very loudly who they are, we should listen.

Dystopian urban policy warfare. Businesses couldn’t find actual residents who oppose the bus lane program so they created AI ones to use on their Instagram page.

Bus lanes and bike lanes are beneficial to pedestrians. Keeping lanes for personal vehicles is a hazard to pedestrians.

The data shows that almost nobody using Fifth Avenue is in a car, but the city insists on reserving them space while other (well used) modes fight over the leftovers. All with a way too high price tag.

This is just the Adams Administration/Adams DOT allowing "member deference" to apply to street design. The City Council has no formal power over this decision
