A humidifier on the sink in front of a bathroom mirror. The combination of small "on" and "full" lights above a wide curved vent make a pleasant smiling face and on the back of the humidifier, which can be seen in the mirror, another wide curved air vent and the two screws holding it together above it make a horrified face.

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there

Boo Radley’s reveal in To Kill a Mockingbird gave Robert Duvall perhaps the finest debut moment in the history of American cinema. He went on to play a fair few blinders besides. Raising a glass to one of the greats.

Just checking, it's now ok to flee your homeland, because you're afraid for your safety, and seek refuge in another Country?

Glad we've cleared that up. Let's hear no more about immigration and refugees then.

That would be my personal opinion, yes. It got more sci-fi pulp into the second season, then all that follows is either a hilarious camp romp or excruciatingly bad (the Leprechaun episode, oh God...)

"I say! Are you Georgina?"
The child in the opposite bed sat up and looked across at Anne. She had very short
curly hair, almost as short as a boy's. Her face was burnt a dark-brown with the sun, and
β€œFamous Five 01 - Five On A Treasure Island” By Enid Blyton 7
her very blue eyes looked as bright as forget-me-nots in her face. But her mouth was
rather sulky, and she had a frown like her father's.
"No," she said. "I'm not Georgina."
"Oh!" said Anne, in surprise. "Then who are you?"
"I'm George," said the girl. "I shall only answer if you call me George. I hate being a girl.
I won't be. I don't like doing the things that girls do. I like doing the things that boys do. I
can climb better than any boy, and swim faster too. I can sail a boat as well as any
fisher-boy on this coast. You're to call me George. Then I'll speak to you. But I shan't if
you don't."
"Oh!" said Anne, thinking that her new cousin was most extraordinary. "All right! I don't
care what I call you. George is a nice name, I think. I don't much like Georgina. Anyway,
you look like a boy."

To give you an idea of how deranged the UK has become about gender stuff, here's Enid Blyton - the absolute avatar of classic English conservatism and a huge fan of racist "gollywogs" - casually describing a gender non-conforming kid in the 1940s and having their friends be totally cool with it.

Every paragraph is so rich, every word so carefully considered and used with purpose. It acts as both damning historical commentary and a canny criticism of today's invasive culture of nationalistic rhetoric. I do think it will become a modern classic

Lorry driver who made guns and prepared for 'race war' is jailed Thomas McKenna, 60, had set up a gun-conversion factory in a caravan in South Ockenden, Essex.

If an immigrant or British Muslim was selling guns to criminals and preparing for a "race war" it would be on every front page for days and the top story on every news broadcast.

The cassettes that the band used for the album were acquired from a trader of certain qualities in a secret location. They had been manufactured near certain chemical plants in Tallinn, and some copies had particularly heavy doses of radiation

HTP only had two other releases - their self-titled debut and unsuccessful follow-up, Awful Lotta Offal. A flexi disc given away for free with Kerrang magazine containing You Swine b/w PIG DILDO (Single Cut) failed to garner any interest

The nearest-to-mint copy that sold on Discogs reached Β£33.78. Unfortunately, the sachet leaked en route and the hand-drawn cardboard album sleeve was visibly breathing when the questionable collector opened the mail packet

Alas, the nature of vinegar usage resulted in most copies of the album, and the systems they were played on, unusable. That, and the master of the seven minute thrash workout PIG DILDO was accidentally replaced with an advert for fish fingers during duplication at the bass player's home

Hybrid Terror Pig's controversial live album Squeal For Me Sarajevo, self-released on cassette in 1983, came with a sachet of vinegar labelled "pig sweat" which listeners were encouraged to douse over themselves while listening to mimic the extreme nature of the band's on-stage antics

I told them to hold fast and that the EHRC Guidance was clearly wrong and did not properly follow the judgment of the court. Pleased (and a little relieved) to see this has been confirmed.

As ever I am grateful to @goodlawproject.bsky.social for their amazing work and I encourage you to donate.

I provided advice to a number of companies/institutions in the wake of the Supreme Court decision and my firm advice was that they did NOT need to change their toilet policies or exclude trans people from their preferred bathroom.

They understandably became twitchy when the EHRC guidance came out.
