There were a surprising number of former trotskyists in the early 00s neocon scene (which I know had a fair amount of crossover with the New Atheist scene)

I think, per my very vague recollections, the tacit implication was that atheists before them were unwilling to be confrontational, or challenge religion, or argue the case for atheism etc. I don't agree with that view, but I think that's what New Atheists saw other atheists in comparison.

I am very firmly of the opinion that a new, highly active, skeptic movement desperately needs to emerge again (without the issues of racism, sexism and transphobia that sadly characterised a good chunk of the previous one).

Remainers! Are you worried that we are drifting further from Europe? Would you like to see the EU declaring their solidarity with Britain? Here is one simple trick!

Ignoring the ridiculousness of Americans worrying about other nuclear armed nations run by right-wing authoritarians with a penchant for concentration camps; have these people actually looked at the history of the US militarily overthrowing govts they dislike? The record is not what I'd call great

I reckon it's definitely closer to the latter. Specifically it's "I find this leftie/liberal deeply annoying on social media, and I am therefore going to to radically polarize myself against everything they believe irrespective of the actual merits of the issues."

One thing @ifbookspod.bsky.social has persuaded me of is to be anti-general-advice. At a high level you can say true things like "try and be friendly and helpful so more people will want to be your friend". But to be useful beyond that the advice would have to be personalised, so cannot be en-masse.

Tens of thousands of people take to streets for London Trans+ Pride 2025 Event becomes biggest of its kind as more than 100,000 turn out to support its β€˜existence and resistance’ theme

Tens of thousands people took part in a trans rights event in London, about x100 the asylum protests today. Less covered, except for Guardian, either as politics or for lack of violent threat.

550,000 people in England are waiting for an ADHD assessment.

But even after diagnosis, support isn’t guaranteed.

Move area, change GP or go Right to Choose/private… and you may be told to start over.

That’s not care. That’s chaos. And it happens all the time.

Living along a polluted street could affect your brain health as you age.

New research from IoPPN, @ucl.ac.uk, @uniofleicester.bsky.social and Alzheimer's Research UK has found high levels of pollution can lead to cognitive decline and small amounts of relief can help

We're cracking down on migrants working illegally as food delivery riders.
We'll share asylum accommodation locations with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats so they can take action if riders are staying there.
We will do what it takes to ensure fairness for

So, they are going to share the locations of where highly vulnerable individuals live with firms which have suffered massive data breaches? Hmm, what could possibly go wrong.
