31.07.2025 00:18 β π 13 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0This morning, a M4.6 (prelim.) earthquake near Singleton was felt across eastern NSW.
Our latest analysis here at @earthquakes-au.bsky.social now has this as M4.9 with a depth of <4 km - comparable to the depths of earthquakes at the nearby Mt Arthur Coal Mine in 2024. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...
Thatβs a wrap for 2025 at the @seismosocam.bsky.social annual meeting. As always I am grateful for the opportunity to meet my online friends in person, and to showcase our observatory and the tools that we developed to monitor earthquakes. See you all next year in Pasadena!

In the last ~2 weeks the Asia Pacific region experienced several significant earthquakes.
In addition, Japan released casualty and economic loss scenarios in the event of a local M8.0+ earthquake.

Aftershock foreshock for the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar indicates a very high likelihood (97%) of earthquakes of magnitude 5+, 40% chance of M6+ and a very small possibility of another quake of M7+ (~6%) in the next week.

A M7.7 followed ~11 mins later by a M6.4 aftershock - still a strong earthquake and likely damaging in itself - in Myanmar/ Burma about 40 mins ago. It took ~12 minutes for the associated waveforms to arrive at our recorders in the @earthquakes-au.bsky.social network in southeast Australia.
