So, what we're seeing is a disregard for their commitment to user choice and a demonstration of the kinds of people, the kinds of moderators that Jay and company intend to be.

Now, if you've been here long enough, the writing was on the wall, but damn this is a bad look after a day-long crashout.

At this point, it doesn't matter what justification they provide for Link's suspension, the fact of the matter is that the BlueSky team has demonstrated a wanton disregard for their own commitments to user moderation by deploying suspensions in response to what they take to be personal slights.

What @jay.bsky.team and @safety.bsky.app are demonstrating here is that any move to demonstrate the hypocrisy of their public statements regarding the kind of platform they're trying to make, any attempt to hold them accountable for enabling bigotry on that platform, will be met with suspension.

Suspending Link after he pointed out the how following Jonathan Chait after being accused of transphobia does not allow you to beat the transphobia allegations. In fact, it does the opposite.

To be clear: suspending Link was certainly a choice. And we know what KIND of choice it is.

In short, Bluesky Moderation thinks that trans people should be responsible for making sure they don't see the waves of Nazis flooding the platform to brigade us with hate speech and open defamation of our entire community, but merely pointing out who a Bluesky moderator follows is bannable.

If I'm not talking about something, it's probably because I either don't know enough about it to opine, or because other people are saying things better than I could, or because I don't see even close to everything that happens. Not every situation needs my input.

I literally believe that white cis society has ZERO concept of the violence of how bad things are right now. And they still do not seem to comprehend that we’ve never really had a true democracy. The concept of a democracy has been colonized and misunderstood by white people for a while.
