This is my SB 79 rezoning map for Berkeley based on nearest pedestrian access points, any % of a lot in range being eligible per SB 79's texts. Its going to be more like a Middle Housing bonus than even mid-rises, really.

This one highway is projected to cost 85% of what CA has spent on high-speed rail over 15 years and hundreds of miles. If we can afford this, we can afford high-speed rail.

It goes beyond safety. I can afford a car to the airport, but unless there’s a good reason, I’m gonna spend more time & take BART or bus bc I feel it’s the right thing. For several years I walked from LAX to their bus terminal nearly a mile away. For that matter, I almost go SF/LA by Amtrak

It may not be the likeliest of routes, but it is scenic. One might take Point Lobos past Sutro Baths and the Cliff House, down to TGH and thence to Lincoln on the south side of GGP and then make your way to BVP on Haight. That portion of the Great Highway west of GG Park is not closed to cars.

Lotta folks in Santa Monica are going to die on the hill of turning the airport into an unfunded park with not a single unit of housing

They were also the caretakers of the last steel Interurban built for the PE (a 1200?) bit I’ve not seen pictures of it recently. I hope it still exists. None of the steel interurbans built for the PE made it into preservation in North America
