Talk to text is killing me.

(Not to mention the inconvenience of the Thomas Street Bridge being closed and dead dinosaurs forcing me to walk my bike through the sculpture park.)

Fwiw the Corten looks fantastic. I ride this daily. There are only a few places where it’s too short and problem. The chicanes are annoying but honestly pretty good at forcing tourists on wheels to pay attention (which is the real danger!). The aquarium hill blind curve is the worst bit.

One minute tour of the Alaskan Way protected bike infrastructure! My spouse took me home Thursday in the box bike (so cramped!) and I took the opportunity to document the trip. Can’t wait to redo this from Myrtle Edwards to the West Seattle Bridge and beyond! 😍

1) The Alaskan Way PBL is amazing! I may have just been dodging the closure signs and using it for a few weeks now - so happy it’s now official! 2) !$@&@!!!! the ill-timed closure of the Thomas Street Bridge makes the north end irritating for the next seven weeks…. 3) OMG SDOT IS FINALLY ON BLUESKY

Yeah, I think this is really geographically and site/zoning specific. The city (planning code) favors parking off alleys. Smaller projects get away with more (to make more housing easier to build) and if there’s an existing curbcut/driveway the city usually lets a small project keep it.

Proud of my South Park neighbors for showing up to support our community! About 150 of us stood on the bridge to declare YES TO IMMIGRANTS and #nokings. (Lots of happy honks far outnumbering the few d*ckheads.) Meanwhile 70k marched downtown 🀩

Can anyone explain to me why this last block of the northern end of the Duwamish Trail/West Marginal PBL isn’t also protected bike lane? What, they get like three parking spots? Move the damn (illegal?) ecoblocks three more feet and slap on some paint, amiright?

Georgetown to South Park Safety Project - Transportation | seattle.gov Creating a walking and biking connection between Georgetown and South Park

The Georgetown to South Park trail is still under construction (the flume property behind the gas station won’t open for a while) but the temporary bike lane on E Marginal Way is helping bridge the gap to the open part on Ellis Ave S. www.seattle.gov/transportati...

Rest In Peace David Hernandez. David was an employee at the Sea Mar health clinic in South Park for over 30 years. Then he was run over and killed in the crosswalk next to the clinic (14th & Henderson). The second fatality at this intersection in six months. South Park deserves safe streets for all.

SDOT recently installed β€œno turn on red” restrictions at 14th Ave S and S Henderson St in April 2025 as part of its proactive safety investment strategy. Right turn on red crashes account for 9% of all collisions with people crossing the street. Past US DOT studies have indicated that 60% more pedestrians and twice as many bicyclists are hit by turning cars at intersections where people are allowed to turn during a red light.

We’re happy to answer any questions you might have about these measures, and we are also working with Elaine on an opportunity for a follow up conversation with you within the next couple weeks.

Thanks,

Bill

… which fails to mention the role of the freight corridor, wsdot, or king county in mediating speeds SOUTH of these crash sights. It also fails to suggest any actual road redesign. I love pedestrian leading intervals, but they do nothing to force someone going 60 off an offramp to stop in time.
