About to spend some time on the Namekagon River with biologists who are surveying the whole river for its native mussels.

Hit send on my newsletter and the noon siren in town immediately sounded, felt pretty great to be honest.

Possibly just watched a ruby -throated hummingbird chase a swallowtail butterfly away from lily flowers. Had not considered that aspect of competition before. Things are getting a little urgent out here.

They were not a great team but they were mostly great players. I will miss the Minnesota Twins.

Went for a paddle, came back, grabbed my bag out of the bottom of the canoe and discovered I'd had a garter snake along for the ride. Probably good I didn't learn this in the middle of the river.

I've been trapped at my writing residency without power since last night by two trees down across the driveway. Finally liberated to discover that Marine on St. Croix looks like a war zone, parts of the village just covered in windblown trees. Devastating damage. Wow.
