So, the history is that the original name was Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations. When it became a state, they dropped the Providence Plantations part. The eponymous island is also known as Aquidneck Island.

Sidenote, the Kutenai language is actually a language isolate. Theories suggest they migrated further south than other Native Groups during the last ice age, and there are artifacts over 11,000 years old in British Columbia.

It's New Years Eve in ancient Greece and Theseus is on his "New Year, New Me" bullshit again. However, the discarded assets of his previous personality have been congealed into another version of him, thus raising the question of which being is the original Theseus.

Let's rewind a bit onto Isaac Stevens. He attempted to install Martial Law in the Washington Territory and pardoned himself (sound familiar?)

Good news, however: He's been dead for over 100 years!

The results of this, from what I've found, was that the Kootenai Nation tribe's population TRIPLED in the years since. I don't even know how that's possible, and I'd want to double-check these numbers, but it was a huge success for the Kootenai.

Well, because the media had their eyes on the Kootenai Nation War, and because it was the 70s United States watching, Gerald Ford decided against sending in the US Army to put down this rebellion, and signed a new treaty with the Kootenai, giving them a significant amount of land back.

A major highway connecting the United States to Canada actually runs through Bonners Ferry, and so the Kootenai natives sent in their war declaration to Gerald Ford and then occupied the highway, demanding tolls from drivers passing through. Not only did this disrupt trade, it caused a media circus.

The dude left out the Bonners Ferry tribe.

Flash-forward to the 1970s, and Kootenai Chairwoman Amelia Trice realizes that, because of this, the Kootenai Nation of Bonners Ferry was legally allowed to declare war on the United States. So, faced with annihilation, that's what they did.

Way back in the mid-1800s, an American Military officer named Isaac Stevens (who later becomes Governor of the Washington Territory) decided to, instead of actually signing a treaty with the various Kutenai tribes, FORGE one instead. This is known as the Hellgate treaty. Except, there was one issue-

The United States government lost a formal war against the Kootenai Nation in Bonners Ferry in the 1970s. The Kootenai Nation at the time only had 60 people. More in 🧵

Anyways, another Neo-Nazi group, the Patriot Front had a van full of dudes with guns get stopped before a Pride Event. None were even from CDA. According to one of my friends, the Pride Event was actually a huge success, in part because the Patriot Front raised a LOT of awareness about it.

Hey, remember when the Patriot Front got arrested in Coeur d'Alene and unmasked on the grass in downtown? Good times. I was gonna go to that pride parade but my dad took me to see the Red Sox in Seattle instead. We only found out about that on the ride home.

But yes, Idaho swung majorly far-right, and that's due to a surge in conservative voters moving to Idaho for a multitude of reasons. The American Redoubt reflects a lot of the worst parts of that.

Side note: Native-born Idahoans hate people who moved in from out-of-state. Mostly due to housing.

The essential idea is nothing new: Far-right Conservatives move to a part of the country that's more moderate in order to push it further along the political spectrum into the red. Idaho actually had a Democratic governor, Cecil D Andrus, in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Hard to believe, right?

The Redoubt movement! You ever wonder why Idaho is so fucking fascist? Look no further. Although it was first proposed in 2011, the Redoubt actually reflects ancient history going back WAY too far from when the Jesuits wished to establish a "Wilderness Kingdom of Christ" in Idaho. Weird, right?

Anyways there are stories warning people not to get near certain areas in CDA because they're Aryan Nation compounds. I heard some growing up, and I was born in 2002 after the Aryan Nations went Bankrupt, so I suspect they're still around in some form.

Coeur d'Alene actually won an award for some countermeasures against the Aryan Nation, but like... they'd been a problem for a decade when CDA won the award in 1986. It's basically the anti-fascist participation trophy. "You tried" award.

So, Idaho has had a Nazi problem for decades at this point. In the 80s, Coeur d'Alene won an award for counteracting the Aryan Nations, a Neo-Nazi group founded in 1974. They had a base in Hayden Lake, and notably assaulted a Native American woman, leading to a lawsuit where they went bankrupt.

Having grown up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, I am never shocked when it makes national news about batshit insane stuff. I can tell you so many insane facts about Idaho, so let's go:
