I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's so good! But if you'd just wanted the astronaut-spy part, I didn't want to assign 2 books of build-up. I hate recommending media-with-homework. It's a strength of the series that you can jump in at any point and not be lost.

The nice thing about it is that you don't have to! I think reading them in order provides more context, but each book walks on its own.

I've had this conversation with my kid, too. About the same age. She was on her tablet and yelled "fuck!" out of nowhere. I said "Justify that." Her reply: "I'm editing video." Yeah, I'll allow that one.
