In y8 we do physical changes and look at changes of state and evaporation v boiling. Then a topic on chemical reactions looking at different types of reaction in turn finishing with acids and alkalis and the atmosphere content.
We finish with an interdisciplinary project.

We have our own program using BEST resources. We study particles and solutions and chemical literacy in y7 which is learning to read and find elements on the PT, understanding formulae and linking observations to particle diagrams showing atoms rearranging.

Materials and extraction of metals are out for me. I want to use it to focus on understanding principles of chemistry to set them up well for GCSE and because it gets to the heart of the subject.

We get our geography dept to deliver it. They're much more enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I'm involved in planning the SoL so can talk about it knowledgeably and I will check it every year.
