Volunteered taking tickets for a drag show NYCC after party tonight. And now we're on the LIRR home & I guess some country star had a gig tonight? Such a weird duality to go from a room full of people chanting "Fuck 🧊, Fuck 🍊" to a train car full of people who you know voted for the guy.

This is on TOP of Dems' grandpa dying 2 weeks ago, trying to move Luca's mom closer bc of her health issues, & my own mother's assorted health issues taking a turn for the worse so she's going to need major surgery soon! So yeah, in short, November sucked & we're struggling!

Luca's disabled mother's insurance had issues bc they say her $2500 life ins policy for when SHE DIES is too high an "ASSET" for her solo now bc her HUSBAND DIED! We're 1000 miles away & paying OOP for her home care aid to keep coming while we fix this so she can still get her MEDS & GROCERIES!

A NYS progrm to help rebuild our house (who gave HALF what they promised btw) says we didn't do "enough", despite having ALL our receipts, says they "never got" the hardship waiver we sent MULTIPLE times, & now wants the money BACK. So now we had to hire a lawyer to fight them!?

Dems' WC sent him to a new eval guy who claims he's ONLY 25% broken, DESPITE agreeing he needs spine surgery! Dems can barely lift a jug of milk & can't tie his shoes or shower w/o help! Like WTF!? He got a WC lawyer who's appealing w proof from drs & surgeons but it takes time.

Our vet is BEYOND amazing and the woman who owns the practice straight up WAIVED half his hospital bills, but we're still on the hook for roughly $3k with them, plus the nearly $250 cremation fee from the pet cemetery.

Our 5 yr old cat Keith got a super rare infection & passed away. All THREE vets AND our (human) doctor had to GOOGLE the weird germ that took him from us. He was my baby boy and I'm devastated. We've had him since he was literally too tiny for even a XS harness. 😭 I've cried so much, y'all.

URGENT! Nov has been the WORST month & we NEED HELP. Unexpected expenses SCREWED us, our cat got sick & died, Luca's mom's home care ins 💩 itself, workers comp is trying to screw Dems, & we had to hire a lawyer bc the gov't sucks! 🙃 & More!

Text from an email shared with members of the ABA. Same text as that quoted above plus the explanation that the law would have required book sellers to rate all books for sexual content, without defining this or giving private individuals any tools for this rating system, but imposing harsh penalties for failure to meet the standard it wouldn't define, which is basically the definition of abusive, amirite

IMPORTANT VICTORY AGAINST TEXAS LEGISLATION

"Judge Albright issued an oral order enjoining the State from enforcement, as well as a follow-up hearing on September 11th.

"In his order, the judge concluded: “READER misses the mark on obscenity with a web of unconstitutionally vague requirements.""

Stop policing queer people how they should write their own stories. Don’t treat them each as the sole spokespeople for the entire spectrum of queer identity when all they want is to write stories about themselves and their culture.

Asexuality is a spectrum. It includes those of us who may have sexual attraction very rarely, or only conditionally. If you don’t understand why acknowledgement and education of the gray area between ace & allo is needed, it’s probably because you don’t personally need it.

I feel like 28 years total isn't long enough, but the combined 56 of the 28 year version seems reasonable to me? Even round it off to 30+30, but add the caveat that to get the extension the work has to continue to be used by the author or copyright holder in a substantive way.

COVID SAFETY 101  (2023)

Covid (SARS-Cov-2) is short for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus is airborne and neuroinvasive. It causes vascular disease and dysregulates immune systems. The pandemic is not over, the virus never became milder,  and the government has continually lied about the threat. Because the virus is being allowed to spread freely, more dangerous variants are constantly emerging. We are all in serious danger.

COVID IS A BSL3 PATHOGEN

Biosafety level three pathogens are those that cause serious or potentially lethal disease through inhalation. Other BSL3 pathogens include yellow fever, West Nile virus, and tuberculosis. When Covid is handled in a lab setting, this is what people wear (left). Covid has always been classified as BSL3. Omicron is not mild.

COVID IS AIRBORNE

Covid is airborne. Staying six feet apart does not keep you safe. Social distancing was never enough to prevent transmission. Masks work, when worn properly. Washing hands and getting vaccinated do not stop Covid infections, because the virus is in the air and can linger in the air for hours.

LONG COVID IS A DIRE EMERGENCY

10-70% of people never recover from their infections. At least one in ten infections leads to Long Covid, a severe disease that has no cure. Long Covid is the third-leading neurologic disorder in the US. Covid can persist in the body long after infection (we don't yet know how long). Reinfections are far more dangerous than initial infections, and the damage is cumulative.

MANY INFECTIONS ARE ASYMPTOMATIC

Many Covid cases are asymptomatic, meaning many people with Covid do not realize they are sick. And even in symptomatic cases, people often transmit Covid before any symptoms appear. This is why an approach based on sick people staying home cannot and will not work. Up to 60% of transmission comes from sources who are presymptomatic and asymptomatic.

VACCINES AREN'T ENOUGH

Herd immunity is not possible. Our bodies are not building immunity to this virus, which has achieved immune escapeby mutating so much. Covid is dysregulating immune systems. Current vaccines do not prevent transmission, death, or Long Covid. And most people’s vaccines are out of date. Masks (N95s/KN95s work best) are our only protection from infection.

For my authors: Now more than ever you should be crediting your cover artists. It helps other people find them for potentially more work, and also tells people you are honest and not supporting AI generated images! Win-win for everybody!

This is sad to see as someone who grew up in Florida. When I was a Florida public school student, our teachers didn’t have to skip Shakespeare out of fear. They had to skip Shakespeare because there was no budget for books and the library lost its only VHS copy of Romeo + Juliet.
