Two empty jars in front of a vase of flowers and a box of buttons. The jars are labelled ‘be able to control the weather’ and ‘have the ability to talk to animals’.
This week, we're asking:
Would you rather...
Control the weather?
Be able to talk to animals?
Cast your vote all week in the library!

Ever wondered what goes on in the library when you're not here? Here's my day in just under a minute and half!
See you tomorrow - good luck to Years 11-14 for your mocks. The library is open as a quiet study space - first come first served, and the usual rules apply.

They enjoyed a hot chocolate, with optional cream* and marshmallows, as well as a packet of biscuits and a Freddo, while they read. There was a really lovely buzzy, bookish atmosphere, and all agreed it was a super way to spend a wintery break as the term draws to a close.

“This is the best thing that’s ever happened in school!” - Finlay, Year 8.
At breaktime, a group of pupils in Years 8-10 who have borrowed from, or used, the library regularly since September were invited to an event inspired by the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóð.

One of my favourites growing up - I still can’t eat Turkish Delight without thinking of the book!
Reading it then, I couldn’t have imagined I’d have ended up working as the librarian in CS Lewis’s old school, and sharing his books with a whole new generation - strange how life works out!

A copy of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis is held up in front of a black metal lamppost with a white base. The lamppost sits at the end of a long driveway, at the end of which is a red brick Victorian building. Trees line the driveway, and their leaves are changing to autumnal colours.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis (OC 1141), first published on this day 75 years ago.
Pictured by the lamppost at Campbell College that local lore says inspired him.

It deals sensitively with some tough themes - homelessness, poverty, bullying, illness, and addiction - but is an ultimately uplifting tale highlighting the importance of empathy and compassion.

Here’s one of my current reads, ‘Norah’s Ark’ by Victoria Williamson - a lovely, thought-provoking story about two children from different backgrounds who bond over nature to form an unlikely friendship.

A montage of three photographs. The image is captioned Library & Digital Tech Collaboration.
Top right: a woman wearing a face mask smiles at a pupil who is reading from a sheet of paper. The photo is captioned, ‘a practical exercise in plagiarism.’
Centre left: two photographs side by side showing pupils looking at a presentation displayed on a tv screen. The photo is captioned, ‘learning how to research and reference.’
Bottom right: a pupil talks through a presentation to peers. The photo is captioned, ‘putting new research and referencing skills to use in a presentation and report into ethics in digital technology.’
There is also a quote from feedback received from Year 14 pupils, which reads: “the online research skills I gained were definitely valuable in my view.”
Great to collaborate earlier in the year with Digital Technology to teach research & referencing skills to some of our Year 14.
Their feedback indicates they found it a useful project - hopefully it’ll make the transition to university study a bit easier too!
