Putting bollards up to deter cars in a place where it is already clear that cars should not be is just adding car infrastructure to pedestrian spaces.

These look like shit though, right?
Bollards are not just the width of the bollard - they are the area around them, which is often double/triple the width of the actual bollard itself. They're the psychological friction on pedestrians and people with mobility aids needing to avoid contact with them
Why should the pavement be cluttered and narrowed even further by bollards when basic highway code knowledge *should* do the work?
Someone who drives as part of their job should a) have better knowledge of HW-code and b) be dealt with far harsher when they break it.
A white van has been parked on the pavement and on zigzags whilst a worker on the other side of the road appears to be putting up or taking down a large advert
Parking on zigzags and mounting the pavement.
All to put up or take down the latest advert for McDonaldโs.
This could be prevented if ordinary citizens could submit this stuff quickly and simply through an app. It would massively transform our public spaces for the better.

When you open a street up to people - anything can happen! It was fantastic to be out for another beautiful Meet Me On Milwaukee, hosted by @aldermanlaspata.bsky.social! We saw little kids riding their bikes, tandems, strollers, dogs, dining, DJs, and a lot more.
What street should do this next?
The two tests of cycling infrastructure should be
1 - would this be okay for a 12 year old child on their own?
AND
2 - would this be okay for lone woman at night?
If the answer to either of these is NO then it's not adequate.
Active travel is a public health issue.
We really really need politicians at all levels to understand that building decent bike lanes won't just help a few Lycra-clad blokes: it will have a massive impact on people's health long term.

Road in Hackney. This amount of motor traffic just canโt safely mix with this amount of cycle traffic so it isnโt safe for kids to cycle to school. It is inexplicable the planned Hoxton LTN wonโt address this.
