Rode our bikes 5 miles along NCN Route 696 and went to a Lego cafe in Bingley.
What a brilliant way to spend a few hours! ยฃ3.50 to rent a Lego set and relax for a while - what a handsome fellow he turned into ๐ฆ
Made good use of the NCN signage too as Bingley is a bit of a mess cycle-wise ๐ซฃ

Transport policy in the UK is broken. By increasing rail fares each year while freezing fuel duty, the government is increasing the number of trips driven and cars on our roads. Entirely self-defeating.

Otley is one I think about every time we visit.
Flat, good town centre, 2x supermarkets, river, park.
It suffers from the classic "main road throught the middle" and doesn't have a train station but it could be toally transformed by some small changes.

18. From this material and the evidence heard by the court, the findings are that the defendant did not bang on the roof of the claimant's car. This was not captured on the video footage which captured the whole of the exchange between the parties. Further, the claimant's credibility upon this issue is tainted by the omission in her witness statement of any mention of her handling the mobile telephone. She is clearly pictured doing so. The only reference to her phone in paras 6 to 14 (in which she described the incident) is to her listening to a podcast on it. It is surprising that, as a solicitor having taken an oath before the court to tell the whole truth, this crucial fact was omitted from her witness statement, particularly where there is a rebuttable presumption of fact arising from the application of section 11 of the Civil Evidence Act 1968- see paragraphs
155- 157 below and the content of image
The retired solicitor โ who had been captured on video using her phone while driving โ tried to blame the cyclist for "banging" on her roof. Video showed otherwise, and judge not best pleased with the retired solicitor.

My spicy take:
Suggesting all car parks should be covered in solar panels is textbook greenwashing and further cements poor land use and car dominance, both physically and psychologically.

Sitting waiting for some car fixing and a gentleman has just dropped his car off and his daughter(?) is talking to him and isn't sure what he's talking about, clearly a little foggy - he's perfectly fine to drive around though?
They've wandered off and he's looking at a family SUV ๐

Estimating the benefits of active travel investment
Examines how economic appraisal can be done more effectively for active travel interventions that do not fit into existing frameworks.
ICYMI. A report for Active Travel England on estimating the benefits of active travel was published last week.
Looks to be a helpful summary of some of the key appraisal issues and identifies the interventions that can do badly under the current approaches (eg traffic reduction & area wide schemes)

How to be a man
The right story narrative about male attractiveness is grounded in Social Darwinism and free market economics. Can progressives tell a better story?
OK so feeling slightly apprehensive about this, which I suppose is kind of the point. This is an attempt at a progressive view on masculinity and on men getting laid. God help me. iandunt.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...

The second-hand ebike market is probably the best way to crowd out the illegal or dirt-cheap ebike sales - a very odd choice from ebay.
At least have some kind of policy which required an image of the battery label to be approved.

An infographic illustrating the '3-30-300 Rule' for urban greenery. It features stylized drawings of trees and a bench, accompanied by three key guidelines: having 3 large trees visible from your home or workplace, ensuring 30% tree canopy cover in your neighbourhood, and living within 300 meters of a publicly accessible green space
Have you heard of the 3-30-300 ๐ณ rule?
Everyone should be able to:
๐ฒ See at least 3 trees from their home
๐ณ Have 30% tree canopy cover in their neighbourhood
๐ Live within 300 meters of a high-quality green space

When I complained about a similar framing of this story previously, the BBC told me that it was newsworthy because it was a fatality involving an e-bike.
Not because a driver chased them down and crashed into them leading to Armstrong's death and her boyfriend to lose his leg.
Fuck the BBC.
