As part of their budget consultation CEC gave people the chance to indicate what they should spend money on. Apparently 80% of respondents felt they should NOT spend money on walking and cycling infrastructure.

Hmm. There's a bit to unpack here.

Lots of protests regarding lost farmland etc for the new town at Adlington. I can't recall many protests about farm land lost due to the Poynton Relief Road. That's likely to be cited as a key enabler for the new town I suspect. The Poynton Relief Road is pretty rubbish for active travel too.

I see that CEC's Director of Place has resigned. He was one of the people involved in Active Travel plans.

The slightly worrying thing is that several of the people complaining say they are cyclists. I can't imagine that CEC would install substandard cycleways...

The Police very occasionally have an afternoon trying (maybe once in 5 years). Unfortunately it's really easy to make up an excuse. I followed a few cars through with a GoPro once. When I submitted the footage the Police said it wasn't worth doing anything. Bad for a driving instructor though.

Important pedestrian route in Macc closed. Bridge off Middlewood Way by the big Tesco.

I explained that what he had just done was illegal. The instructor then started shouting "we were going to a cafe but it was closed". He had clearly made that up. I just responded "sure you were" and cycled off. I wonder how he explained that to his student? Dreadful example.
