Like, the billionaires still need the products of labor to be generated in order to continue selling those products and amassing their fortunes. They cannot do this if the AI does not work, and it doesn't. That would be the same as just closing their business.

But it will not actually do that labor. This is billionaires lying to other billionaires about what AI can actually do in order to swindle them. It does not and cannot accurately replace employees, OpenAI just published a paper about how hallucinations are a mathematical inevitability.

I think it's beginning to work against them. A lot of voters are now seeing constant ads and tons of donors as a direct indicator of who not to vote for. They don't have the people so the money is the only tool in their belt.

This one has bothered me the most. Like, if america came under famine would you not expect the disabled to be the first to suffer and die? If you had a child with cerebral palsy or a seizure disorder or blunt force trauma, would you be okay having their death handwaved away during mass starvation?

I don't think americans have a say in anything. I said that no country, anywhere in any context, can be both a liberal democracy and religiously homogenous. Israel can choose to be religiously homogenous, but they will need to stop being a liberal democracy to do so american opinions notwithstanding

my final point here, nothing about the vatican as it exists right now is a liberal democracy. My original point about religious countries being mutually exclusive with liberal democracies is strengthened by the vatican's existence, not weakened.

the vatican also has the weird twist of citizenship being temporary and solely based on employment, so you can't even accurately say it's a religious requirement. it's a job-based requirement and the jobs are catholic-based.

if the citizens of the vatican woke up one day and all decided that it shouldn't be catholic anymore, i would support them in that effort and would therefore say that right now i don't think it's correct that catholics always deserve their own country forever, either.

I honestly do feel the same way about the vatican in theory, but no one is born or raised in the city so it uses the governing structure of italy to outsource all of these issues away. The vatican is not attempting to be a homeland for anyone.

I think it helps that I have a day job in the industry and have seen who is advertising "experience with AI" and how well those people have been doing once in positions. I think my colleagues who are solely in academia are falling for the koolaid a bit harder because they aren't out there anymore

I teach computer science and i'm still on the no-AI train. my students skills have tanked since chatGPT came out. If LLMs worked, I would not have noticed a difference in assignments or grades.

I'm weirdly grateful i'm in the position i am to see how bad it is without using it myself.

I disagree with this first part tbh. A state can't be committed to both religious homogeneity and liberal democracy, even if they're not colonizing someone else. Eventually one will have to win. Either you ban immigration/marriage/conversion to other religions or you no longer have your own state.

These friends, family, and coworkers are generally less informed/politically unengaged. they will stay that way without the engaged being activated positively

I agree about the "saved time" so much. They don't spend it creating art, spending more time with their friends, engaging in fun hobbies or discussions, going to cool events, literally anything. It's just empty time.

Not only that, the writing code time is only like, 10% max of my job lol
