It has. I’ve compared old v new definitions of “historic” for ILI + pneumonia data in 0-4 & 5-17, inc adjustment for pop’n growth.

Need to doublecheck my work before sharing implications, ie how many SD we are above the pre-pandemic avg.

Viral Respiratory Mapper displaying pneumonia and influenza-like illness hospice admissions data from ~Jan 2020 to ~Jan 2022 for ages 0-4 and 5-17 yo. The number of admissions for both age groups is largely below the historic (2015-2019) avg until ~ late March 2022 (coinciding with the revocation of mask mandates in schools).

A Google lens search produced this which shows only influenza-like illness (ILI) & pneumonia.

I hope to find more figures w old historic avg to see what inferences can be made.
But I’m toast rn. My kiddo brought home ILI from school. She and *many* peers have missed 1-2wks of school due to ILI.

Wish I’d taken more screenshots of the subsets of data… but how was I to know they’d switch to a 2y running avg? All I know is the old historic avg was a lot lower.

We’ve had some unprecedented “respiratory seasons” recently. This produces an extremely high “historic baseline” which essentially normalizes unprecedented illness.

I’m looking for anyone who might have old snapshots from ACES that
1. Display only influenza-like illness data &
2. Use the old ACES definition of “historic average” (ie using prepandemic data for the historical avg, not a rolling 2y avg).

Viral Respiratory Mapper -ACES admissions graph demonstrating a spike in Influenza-like hospital admissions in Nov to current early Dec 2025. The current number of admissions is approximately 60 which is more than two standard deviations above the rolling two year average.
