As usual, if any other president had made a statement this delusional and racist, they'd be institutionalized within a day.

I’ve been thinking more about this nonsense and what it means. I don’t think it’s a flex β€” a performative expression of power and intimidation β€” like the advertisements for ICE positions. Too obscure and lacking in flair. Instead I think it likely reflects real internal problems.

I can’t get over how increasingly desperate and worried district judges are β€” they are doing all the right things β€” and how they’re being betrayed by appellate judges and a Supreme Court, both too cowardly to stand behind their decisions.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

The Utah governor just signed a bill to expand his state's supreme court by two seats.

Conservatives have been angry at a series of judicial rulings, including one that safeguarded direct democracy in 2024 & one that struck down their gerrymander. 1st step of their retaliation.

Budget Cuts Threaten Oregon Program for Helping People Get Jobs After Prison The state had recently expanded the novel program for providing one-on-one career coaching, job fairs behind bars, and support for people after release.

When formerly incarcerated people are able to obtain work, it tends to be a low-paying position, keeping them well below the poverty line. β€œThe No. 1 contributor to recidivism is poverty,” says a spokesperson for the Prison Policy Initiative.

These consolidated cases are about the limits of the President's power to dictate the rules
of federal elections. The Framers of our Constitution recognized that power over election rules
could be abused, either to destroy the national government or to disempower the people from
acting as a check on their elected representatives. See, e.g., The Federalist No. 59 (A. Hamilton);
Federal Farmer No. 3. Accordingly, they entrusted this power to the parts of our government
that they believed would be most responsive to the will of the people: first to the States, and then,
in some instances, to Congress. See U.S. Const. art. 1, Β§ 2, cl. 1; U.S. Const. art. 1, Β§ 4, cl. 1.
They assigned no role at all to the President. Put simply, our Constitution does not allow the
President to impose unilateral changes to federal election procedures.
Upholding our Constitution's separation of powers in the election context is a matter of
substantial importance. The Supreme Court long ago recognized that the right to vote is a
"fundamental political right" because it is "preservative of all rights." Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118
U.S. 356, 370 (1886). Our Constitution's careful allocation of power over election regulation
