Description of my artwork “A lasting mark, 2025. Brush pen on paper; 64cm x 45cm. We leave a fingerprint, a mark, on everything we touch…  There are many species in the world, but there is one type of mammal who has the biggest influence – humans. People are responsible for changing their environment to suit their needs, but they inevitably have an impact on the natural world by expanding and encroaching on existing habitats through activities such as construction, agriculture and deforestation, which have a negative effect on wildlife populations. Animals are forced to cross into populated areas in search of prey, water or a safe home, because their habitat is no longer there – it has been replaced. My artwork shows that whilst there is conflict, that collaboration and conservation is still possible through sharing landscapes and educating people. Coexisting with the environment is not just about saving a particular species, but about helping preserve the different ecosystems and habitats that exist. Forest corridors allow animals to roam between pockets of land which connect their habitats.   Many species of flora and fauna in the world are critically endangered, like elephants, rhinos, tigers and many more, but it is never too late to change the mark you make”.

Nothing common about it! Have been lucky enough to see lots of Kingfishers before (and even photograph them @RSPBRainham @rspb.bsky.social), but not to capture their call… super happy to add a new lifer to my list this morning 😊
