We are all fools to have left Chicago. It was a town to play in; a town where you could stay yourself, and where the hoots of the critics couldn't frighten your style or drain your soul. Charlie preserved it in his heart. Our friendship was based, largely, on the nostalgia we shared for this stockyard Athens. We both knew that the world would turn up nothing better for us than the frowsy streets and hooligan towers of Chicago.

Cloth and Complicity: Seth Rockman on Plantations, Textiles, and the Art of Weaving - Public Books β€œBut I had found a set of instructions in the archives of one of New England's leading manufacturers of low-end woollen cloth for enslaved wearers.”

An interview with a historian who set out to weave a textile of the type that would have been sold to plantations for use by enslaved people, using period equipment.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections β€” 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

Another one that somehow went under the radar: teargassing outside the Humboldt Park Health ER on October 3rd. Wgn was there but somehow it went unremarked, literally just the direction of the wind kept the gas from blowing into the hospital youtu.be/WnLN8wHW_xY?...

An β€˜Operation Midway Blitz’ Timeline - City Cast Chicago At something of a crossroads, we’re looking back at the last two months of β€œOperation Midway Blitz.”

I think you're right. I was looking up a timeline (Shout out City Cast) and that Logan tear gas seems like the first one in a neighborhood. My friend texted me that day because she lives close enough to Rico to have heard the whistles and beeps when that was happening.

Thanks! It's weird, right? I've been feeling vaguely gaslit since this whole scene went down. Thank you for looking into it.

I stopped filming unfortunately right before they started dropping cans, but you can see the wgn van on the right there, and the wgn cameraman is behind the ice agent on the left. I kinda assumed they had it covered

Thanks, I'd love to see it if you find anything! I was legitimately pretty shocked to see them deploy chemical weapons outside a hospital, and having no follow-up or outcry about that incident in particular was very surreal. There was a news van there!

I looked around after the event but didn't find any coverage! I have only my own little eyes & those of like 25 other people as verification lol

October 3rd they also threw teargas at protesters outside the Humboldt Park ER where Fuentes had been arrested, a few hours later. Mercifully blew away down the street instead of into the hospital. I'm surprised I haven't seen much coverage of this, wgn cameras were right there

I've heard this about that village specifically, I can't imagine they'll keep it up with customers getting mad at them. I'd pay those kind of prices for like, a really quality designer piece in good condition, but it sounds like the valuation they're doing isn't even very well-informed

Attended a really raucous bobbing sesh at the close of my local urban farm's growing season. Most apples in a minute was hotly contested, I think the winner got 10, and also very wet.

Went through my collection of old roller skate skate labels and scanned/rescanned them all. I did not realize that I had amassed 182 different ones.

The original purpose of these things was to affix them to your roller skate case and showcase all the different places you skated.
