part of me is waiting for the state of Iowa to consider Jack Trice's story DEI and strip his name from the ISU football stadium

The head coaching endowment docs schools don't want public Universities love to keep big donors' info under lock-and-key. Too bad.

A while ago I asked @mattbrown.bsky.social if he had info on whether schools could unilaterally remove implicated donor names from athletic buildings like Wexner at OSU

David at @foiaball.com chimed in, looked into it and wrote this great explainer for his new site

Chapter 1 of Moby Dick, page 1

The phrase β€˜Call me Ishmael’, the first sentence of the book, is highlighted in blue, with careful highlighting on the very big C at the start. Above this, written in ballpoint pen β€˜His name’

Spam acct blocked my correction, so reposting. This 820 yr old tree lives in the Kamenice nad Lipou Castle garden. Think lightning damage damaged the majority of canopy, so it started growing sideways

Haven't been able to see many ISU games this year, but I would've been shocked if they beat BYU. Always felt this year's team had a better chance of making it past the S16 vs winning the B12 (and no, the conference tourny doesn't count) #bluecy

My archivist heart dies every time my research ends w/ the relevation that the local newspaper morgue was purposefully destroyed for a stupid reason, so this is a nice change. I hope they can get full rights

Seems like a good time to mention the Bokkja i bakken (The Dog on the Hill) statue at the Holmenkollen Ski jump in Oslo - created by Elene Engelsen to celebrate the fact that the escape of a dog onto the jump happened so often it almost became tradition (photo (c) me from a trip last July)

Contra + football + pinball + gold watches + pianos + vampires? Yes.

Also equally infuriating to me. Senior writer used AI to generate (fake!) quotes from a simple blog post, instead of well, you know, reading the post which was only 1500 words.

Writing is thinking. Using AI for headlines, outlines, grammar, etc also has fun scientific side effect: cognitive decline

β€œI cannot understand why you hope for a quick end of the war. Unless we take the horror of battle to Germany itself, unless we fight in their villages, blowing up their houses, smashing open their wine cellars, killing some of their livestock for food, unless we litter their streets with horribly rotten German corpses as was done in France, the Germans will prepare for war, unmindful of its horrors. Defeat must be brought into Germany itself before this mess can come to a proper end; a quick victory now, a sudden collapse, will leave the countryside relatively intact and the people thirsty for revenge. I want the war to end as quickly as anybody wishes, but I don't want the nucleus of another war left whole.”

Just remembering the time David Kenyon Webster of Easy Company, 101st Airborne wrote in a letter to his parents about how Nazi Germany needed a complete and total dismantling or it would happen again

Color cartoon illustration of Bubsy, a humanoid orange bobcat, running through a space scene cradling a ball of yarn under his right arm with his left arm thrust outward kinda like the heisman. He has a large smile with a solid block of white teeth, one eye is closed in a wink and the other looks straight at us. He is wearing a white long sleeve shirt with a giant red exclamation point on his chest.

Behind him are floating orange aliens with drooping cheek jowels, tiny necks, and bulbous bodies. They have three antennas, red noses and quizzical expressions. Balls of yarn, red and green, float in the air as mini planets and also serve as the top of floating silver saucers. A sparkling dark galaxy is in the distance. In the top left corner is a white duck, wings flapping to keep up with Bubsy. The duck is wearing an old timey aviator helmet with googles. Very colorful illustration.

Didn't see TCU game, probably RIP to #bluecy title hopes. TCU is a weird team tho:

Awful home losses = New Orleans (11-14 in Southland), Notre Dame (last place in ACC).

Good losses = Michigan (Big 10 leader) by 4 pts, @ Kansas in OT by 4 pts.

Wins = Florida (SEC leader), ISU

Are they in or out?
