The number of people who think this is "sensible" politics and don't understand why it's a massive uncrossable red line for millions of Labour's supposed core constituency continues to blow my mind. All the minor percentage shifts in NHS waiting lists will never make up for this nativist cruelty.

Obviously, what the UK should do is — irrespective of any other economic or institutional arrangement — agree with the EU to reintroduce FoM. This could be done very quickly and would have have substantial immediate benefits.

Defend free movement as we leave the EU. An immigration system based on compassion and dignity. End indefinite detention and call for the closure of centres such as Yarl's Wood.
