Apparently Inform 7 is still the standard, people are using it, and “text adventure” is the closer term for what im looking for

What ever happened to interactive fiction games where you type "north," "take key," etc? Most text games I've seen are more multiple choice style, but I miss trying to interact with random verbs

This is famous from that Sseth video and for being that "western gay eroge", but I put it right next to Caves of Lore as a wonderful example of something that captures the magic of old-school CRPGs, like a cross between X-COM and Baldur's Gate.

Finally someone recommends Bastard Bonds!! I thought it was the best atmospheric background text I’ve ever read in a game like this (random objects in dungeons etc)

I'll be an artist in residence at "El Hacedor de Imágenes y Palabras" this fall with other artists around the theme of monsters! I'll be building on the monster-making workshops I've been doing in the past few years. Can't wait!
