Heartworm is OUT NOW!

It wouldn’t be a true love letter to the golden age of low-poly survival horror without a game manual right?

Heartworm players, you should check the extras folder…

Bought some new speakers today, and listening to Linking Park on them makes me feel 17 again.

(speakers are Edifier MR5, fairly regular construction with MDF and plastic, but the sound is incredible and they really crank)

Pull requests Β· bevyengine/bevy A refreshingly simple data-driven game engine built in Rust - Pull requests Β· bevyengine/bevy

Hi #bevy ! It may be release season, but it's time for a quick #bevymergetrain. As I explained this morning in a mentoring meeting with a PM from #godot (!), each week, I go over the community-approved PRs and make a final call.

Let's take a look at the 8 PRs: github.com/bevyengin...

Bevy's Fifth Birthday Bevy is a refreshingly simple data-driven game engine built in Rust. It is free and open-source forever!

Today is Bevy's fifth birthday! As always, I've used this as a chance to reflect on the past year and outline my hopes and dreams for the next year of #bevy:

Me looking at my son’s Transformers collection that I painstakingly ensured were the best versions.

Me looking at my RC car collection.

Me looking at my steam library

The difference between this and people developing relationships with pets, imaginary friends, teddies and dolls etc is that LLM is in control of others, and it can be tweaked for specific behavioural changes

Sheeeesh…. The potential for some seriously scary social engineering is right there.

We’re living in a sci-fi age right now. This is the thing that will be called β€œThe Age of AI”, right after β€œThe Industrial Revolution”

I think people are equating deep level kernel access as similar in principle. The same thing is unlikely to be tolerated on Linux for example (and perhaps a lot of the folks saying this are also pro Linux)

I still remember when John Carmack suggested Linux folks should focus on Wine instead of constant requests for native ports. He got dogpiled (around 2013). Community has also been not so great.

But yes, all too often you will find that proton runs a game better than native ports now.

It was always a bit of a chicken vs egg situation. But that also wasn’t helped much by Linux being a piece of shit to develop anything long term on unless you open source it and it’s harder to package repos. Too many distros, too many variations between them, backwards compatibility is 2nd hand.

Fixed a heap of stuff. I had some bad depth testing which resulted in excessive polygons passed to drawing. Fixed frustum culling and did proper clipping (see the polys shift). Frustum also provided much more accurate drawing. And Now I don't have a forest of normals (pink lines) in debug draw.

Normally I'd be very excited about this Heretic+Hexen remaster, but I won't give a cent to Microsoft if I can help it.

Take this post as a reminder that id & Bethesda are owned by Microsoft, and unless Nightdive/Atari scored a deal with residuals, they don't get your money. It goes to this ⬇️

Picture is of boxed set of Imperial Rach trilogy by Ann Leckie, the following is copied from Google Books:

This special boxed set contains all three novels in NYT bestselling author Ann Leckie's Hugo, Nebula, and Locus award-winning space opera trilogy about a ship's AI who becomes trapped in a human body, and her quest for revenge.
"There are few who write science fiction like Ann Leckie can. There are few who ever could." -- John Scalzi
On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest.
Breq is both more than she seems and less than she was. Years ago, she was the Justice of Toren-- a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of corpse soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy.
An act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with only one fragile human body. And only one purpose-- to revenge herself on Anaander Mianaai, many-bodied, near-immortal Lord of the Radch.
Ann Leckie's Imperial Radch trilogy has become one of the new classics of science fiction. Beautifully written and forward thinking, it does what good science fiction does best, taking readers to bold new worlds with plenty explosions along the way.

The Imperial Radch series by @annleckie.com. I'm a total fanboy over these but the writing is clear, evocative, imaginative, and the first time through was simply an amazing read with so many things I never really saw coming.

This is something the Linux Desktop will never achieve. There are so many things that Linux desktops will just never manage unless the foss world changes dramatically.

A real nice QoL thing macOS provides is auto audio-captions. Since I have quite bad hearing and struggle with accents this one feature has made a huge difference for me with listening to music, work meetings, and even in games! Yes it overlays on games too.

A photo of a Macintosh PowerBook 150s on a desk. The display is two portrait monitors next to one another, and below that a keyboard, with two trackballs and associated buttons below the keyboard. It looks suspiciously like a normal PowerBook 150 but extra sideways.

The Macintosh PowerBook 150s was especially designed to be used by people with two eyes and two hands.

A friendly reminder that this is all while the FBI has had an office upgraded in Wellington, and just yesterday the NZ Air Force saved 3 Americans from an Antarctic research outpost. The US returned the favor by detaining NZers and slapping NZ with 15% tariffs.
Stop being nice to the US.
