otoh i could play it like bill murray, who apparently has no agent and no manager, just a landline with a voicemail box he doesn't check very often. however, that feels like the kind of thing that works better if you're bill murray.

the thing, to be clear, is not a production! but it is a thing! which may be a step! but who knows in what direction! & i would like to not preemptively fuck it up

i have an opportunity to do kind of a thing?? with the play??? & i feel like i should have SOME kind of online presence to attach it to

trying hard not to read this valentines ad copy from victrola as a statement of their assumptions about who is collecting records these days.

sometimes, when i get anxious at work like my heart is about to pound out of my chest, the reason why is a mystery. other times, it's because i drank three and a half pots of earl gray instead of my usual two cups.

u would think there would be, in an institution this large, such a thing as a backup projectionist who could be called. but u would be wrong.

singing a little song called "the projectionist needs to call me back because if there's no projectionist then there is no movie" to myself

Charlie Brown has asked Lucy for a quarter to shovel the walk, stands with the shovel on his shoulder as she asks β€œWhat if snows tomorrow and covers up our walk again? Do we get our quarter back?”

Never underestimate the sarcasm of Charlie Brown.

yeah, i feel like there's sort of a mutual incomprehension -- haven folks are all "at least it's not your touch which is causing destruction" derry folks are all "at least your children are not getting dragged down to the sewers to be sewerclown chewtoys"

07.02.2026 16:34 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

oh, i kind of love that as a reason -- the towns are slightly different, why shouldn't the outdoor-wear brand of local manufacture be slightly different, too? (one thing that slays me about the show is when they mention Derry up the road -- oh yeah, that town is ALSO cursed it's a regional thing)

07.02.2026 16:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

(the christmas in july episode?? too good. no notes. hysterics. the bit with the dress-like-a-local care package for audrey including fluffy boots that were not bean boots? simply incorrect)

07.02.2026 16:17 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

(the maine things it gets right vs wrong are a fun side-hobby for me, too)

an object of my particular fascination is just how much lucas bryant moves his face when he's not being nathan -- the thing that reads at first as kind of wooden leading-man energy is so carefully crafted to convey a style of guy-from-maine repression that's deeply true to life

expected to do them at the rate you eventually will be until you get the hang of them. but to echo another person, in this thread, it really depends on the place!

07.02.2026 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

i think a part of it depends on if you're being hired to replace someone who's gone, versus to supplement a structure that's already in place. in my experience, the best places have more of a ramp-up period than a true training period, where you start doing things fairly early, but you're not

07.02.2026 15:55 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

rather than characters following narrative patterns, which is such a fun and weird tension in something that's largely structured like a monster-of-the-week...

07.02.2026 15:54 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

oh man, i would love to chat about it if you do! it's a lovely balance betwn an adventure-of-the-week show and a big arc plot that starts to build sort of in the background, and the characters just keep getting deeper and more interesting the more leeway you give them to be people having reactions

07.02.2026 15:53 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

(but also maybe a little bit as a warning that there may eventually be fic, because i LOVE diving headfirst into a long dead fandom and pretending it's only napping)

07.02.2026 15:16 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

&the last third of the time is just because the show is a ridiculous mid-budget syfy show from the twenty-teens that doesn't always manage to transcend its medium, but the uncertainty of it is just so delicious to me -- so i'm breaking my silence here mostly just to let you know what i'm sparing you

07.02.2026 15:15 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

it's one of those beautiful, infuriating shows where it feels, on the surface, kind of cheesy and clumsy, but if you keep watching long enough you notice that 2/3rds of the time, the things that look cheesy/clumsy/accidental are intricately crafted specific choices in a long, delicate, slow build
