I have had an interesting time asking Claude Code to write papers and review papers since I suspect that this tool - and other agentic AIs - will be a major challenge (and opportunity) for political science, and wanted to get a better understanding of this.

Three thoughts:

USAs oppfรธrsel gjรธr Kina mer spiselig for Norge igjen - Altinget Norge vil ikke godta USAs betingelser for videre samarbeid.

The geopolitical centre of gravity is shifting towards China, driven primarily by Europe's increased distance from the US under the Trump II era.

We analysed decades of UN voting data to create a new US-China axis, and found the US advantage is at its lowest level this century.

Venezuelaโ€™s civil-military alliance is being stretched โ€” if it breaks, numerous armed groups may be drawn into messy split How various factions respond to the Trump administrationโ€™s threat to be the de facto ruler of the country could quickly inflame domestic tensions and lead to conflict.

Here is a masterly presentation of the numerous armed groups in Venezuela that may be jockeying for power. It highlights the horizontal rifts and the vertical ones between the localized colectivo paramilitaries and the regime.

From State Dept transcript of Rubio appearance on This Week w/ George Stephanopolous:

SECRETARY RUBIO: Well, weโ€™re not going to judge moving forward based simply on whatโ€™s said in press conferences. We want to see action here at the end of the day. Rhetoric is one thing. You see rhetoric for a lot of different reasons. Thereโ€™s a lot of different reasons why people go on TV and say certain things in these countries, especially 15 hours or 12 hours after the person who used to be in charge of the regime is now in handcuffs and on his way to New York.

So what I will say is, moving forward, itโ€™s very simple. Weโ€™re not going to be reactive here to statements at press conferences or what people say in a certain interview or what some media post โ€“ some media post somewhere. What we are going to react to is very simple: What do you do? Not what youโ€™re saying in public โ€“ what happens? What happens next? Do the drugs stop coming? Are the changes made? Is Iran expelled? Is Hizballah no longer able and Iran no longer able to operate against our interests from Venezuela? Does the migration pattern stop? Do the drug trafficking boats end? Do you deal with the ELN and the FARC, two narcoterrorist organizations who control territory and operate with impunity from the territory of Venezuela against the interests of Colombia and the United States?

These are the things we want addressed. If they are addressed, thatโ€™s how weโ€™ll judge it. If theyโ€™re not addressed, thatโ€™s how weโ€™ll judge it.

QUESTION: And what happens if theyโ€™re not addressed?

The US has loads of military installations in Europe. It likes to pretend this is for Europeโ€™s protection, but this is only partly true. Ramstein, as mentioned here by the Greensโ€™FP expert is a good example. If the US decides to attack Greenland, throwing out US mil installations should be discussed

There's zero legal basis for the US to use force against Venezuela, which is a sovereign state. It's as much illegal aggression as Russia invading Ukraine, and unconstitutional violation of war powers as well.
