Policy responses that limit lower mass e-bikes use will inevitably result in increased higher mass car use.

100%. But just note that European ISA is speed warnings only. Weiners bill was (initially) stronger, in that it required physical speed limiting. That version of the bill should be reintroduced and defended against getting watered down again.

I constantly remind people that the Dodge Ram driving aggro dude with a MAGA sticker is just as much of a threat to me as the person in the Prius with the Kamala Harris sticker playing on their phone. Car culture and motornormativity cross political lines.

Humps are also more comfortable for cyclists traveling up to 10-15mph, as well as for disabled folks in assistive vehicles. They can be customized by adjusting the steepness of the sinusoidal entry and exit ramps.

As long as it's magnetic, i.e. not entirely aluminum, it will work with induction stoves. We have several All Clad's and they all work great with our induction.

How dabbawalas became the world's best food delivery system They’ve been feeding the city for 127 years, but who are the food delivery people behind the system which becameΒ the envy of FedEx

Just wanted to add to the lively burrito taxi discourse as of late: The β€œDabbawalla”. Mumbai’s 125 year old ultra-efficient network of tiffin delivering bike couriers.

I think the issue is where/when to draw the line between β€œsafe to bike/walk” vs β€œonly safe in a car”. As well as how to communicate those nuances during an emergency.

The statistics confirm this as well. But it's shocking to hear about it in real life in your own city/region.

NTSB graphic showing cars speeds vs pedestrian fatality rates.

NTSB graphic showing cars speeds vs pedestrian fatality rates. - 20mpg : 5% chance of fatality - 30mpg : 45% chance of fatality - 40mpg : 85% chance of fatality

The NTSB graphic on car speeds vs pedestrian fatality rates hides a crucial fact: injury collisions are 10x fatal ones, and can be life altering. Oaklands Highland Hospital is constantly treating traffic victims with broken arms/legs and head trauma. Particularly children and the elderly.

Turns out that NPR and PBS' pandering to the right still didn't save their funding. Maybe there's a lesson here for media that think that tilting to the right will spare them from accusations of "liberal bias."

Not to mention the billions of dollars it takes *annually* to maintain those highways. Dollars that could be put to better use developing more sustainable and economically optimal mass-transit infrastructure. Entire cities literally used to pop-up around train stations.

Gonna say something controversial here: Highways suck everywhere, including in between cities. Why? Because people drive on those highways *into* the cities. Which puts pressure on the city to expand road capacity.

i.e. The left picture implies the right picture.
