There's an excellent IWM piece on it, exploring US attitudes, UK leaders attitudes and the population at large.

Both areas have large working class communities, have some of the most deprived areas in the country, have a high projected reform vote share etc, yet different responses.

Its also a little funny because in one isolated experience only, we have the whole flags on bridges and lampposts atm in the UK. In the NE, a working class but hugely white majority area, these flags were limited. In the NW, a more diverse area there were far far more.
