Excellence in Science Leadership:
Strategies for Unlocking Individual Potential
Next Workshop - August 18-20, 2025 (entirely virtual)
Indication of Interest - Now Open!
https://workforce.psi.edu/leadership/
Workshop Facilitators – Dr. Julie Rathbun, Dr. JA Grier
Feedback from past attendees:
In our anonymous poll, 93% strongly agreed that the hosts created an environment where they
felt valued. 100% found the workshop itself valuable and would recommend it to others.
Our workshop is designed for people in
leadership roles in space science, and our
definition of leader is broad. Past
attendees represented all career stages
from graduate student to senior scientist,
in positions including instrument PI,
university faculty, spacecraft engineer,
outreach professional and program
officer. Participants hailed from industry,
non-profits, colleges, small businesses,
and governance institutions.
Both the content of the workshop and the
strategies for facilitation are models of best-
practice for leaders in how to engage with their
teams - their rising stars - to guide them towards
individual and group success. We have substantially
retooled our offering to empower leaders to meet the
challenges of the present moment, and beyond. Topics include the basics of team building,
science ethics, and feedback mechanisms; developing a personal support structure and
finding resources to remain engaged and effective; and innovative strategies to find new
funding, connections, and opportunities. Previous workshop participants are welcome to
indicate their interest to attend so that they can access our new materials and so that we can
strengthen our growing community with ongoing activities well after the workshop.
The format of this workshop is
different from that of others you may
have taken. We will meet on-line for
four hours each day (11 am – 1 pm
and 2-4 pm Eastern) for 3 days and
strongly encourage everyone to
attend all sessions. Every session is
interactive!

The ruling class did a spectacular job convincing the masses that the “vulnerable” are both expendable and at fault for high taxes & government waste.

We aren’t.

End stage capitalism is at fault. The billionaires lining their pockets are at fault.

And to them we are ALL expendable.

Wow. Is he really as good as he appears? He's talking an amazing talk, over and over. I'm skeptical about politicians though. But he seems genuine. I'm kind of in awe at the rhetoric, no compromises.

I'd prefer Tortie cat for my full supplication. But a full-ass orange would win my faith for that deeply genuine self-possession of Orange Being Orange who DNGAF about say, the laws of physics or any sense of propriety let's nap on the clothes washer and fall right off during the spin cycle.

Alas Sesame Street.

I am somehow continually astonished at the self-narrative of "we are the villains, and we dig that." Who writes themselves into *their own story* as the bad guy? That's rhetorical, re psychology of sociopathic narcissists, but I remain agog.

Kermit (Jim), where art thou, now?

Episodic reminder for those who have never lived in AZ and find this behavior unprecedented. Rewatch the movie ‘Raising Arizona.’ Erstwhile Arizonans know this movie isn’t fiction, it’s a documentary. I mean I love AZ but wowzer the batguano shit that goes down is of epic proportions.

Leaving beloved personal items behind likely means an abuser will destroy them, or even use them for ransom/leverage. Ask a friend to hold sentimental items (in closet/garage) until you have a space yourself. Do it soon, since as kick-out day approaches abusers may escalate item destruction/theft.

This is a great action list for those facing NSF terminations.

I would add one key point: Be in touch with legal counsel at your institutions and universities. There is a lot to dispute in these terminations.

Hugely worrying, wondering this. I'm guessing certain local NOAA outlets/locations will do their best to keep people updated as long as they can. States might try to bridge them for a while. But the main central account is already infected by the dogs, as we from the below.

How comprehensively humiliating, disrespectful, and belittling - imagine you are sharing the events of your life, no matter how small, with a living person, and find you've been deceived. Family thinks time with you is burdensome, a distraction, and reduced it to a robot's report. Utter *betrayal.*

Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

PLEASE don’t buy into Amazon’s booksale this week.

They are intentionally trying to eat into profits from Indie Bookstore Day this weekend, a really important annual event for our important community institutions.

Check out your local fave or bookshop.org.

Oh yeah the Clairefontaine, that's my favorite paper whenever I can afford it (I do a lot of handwriting practice so often use something a bit less perfecto). Great journal choice.
