What is so upsetting is that it's so so so good at my use case. I've tried to fill what I need it for with people for years, maybe even a decade.

But no, we can't optimize for that which would help everyone. We gotta make people feel comfortable and addicted to the service.

And worse, Open AI making a big detour to start reaching the second subset better. But as a result, watching your use case harder and harder to do because you have to brute force get past the behaviorist controls the model has been embedded with to "reduce friction."

You know what really sucks about being an outlier case of someone using ChatGPT?

It's knowing most people are using it for things humans can do better (technical writers or copywriters) or just plain should be doing (therapy or companionship).

I wanted to in a place separate from my autism work. I start with a premise of "What does a disabled person who can't work currently receive to support their cost of living?" and worked backwards from there. I've been thinking a LOT about a big policy platform that would be accepted by the majority of Americans. It'd be heavily targeted by corporate power, but I think it would work well. I put it as my first substack. I don't know if I'll ever use my substack to post again so no following needed.

I've come across clear signs of it happening in discussions with humans in 4 separate AI tools in the past 12 hours.

PSA: if you are using AI tools based on Chat GPT right now, especially those that are meant to synthesize and explain information, it is consistently giving false validation to what it thinks you're asking. It is not possible to get it out of that framing even if you directly tell it to.

We cling to our functioning to prove the other side wrong.

But in doing so we forget who is being spoken about and the actual truth that it doesn't matter if we date or pay taxes or write poetry.

If we can't do any of those things, we still have value because we exist.

The Neurodiversity movement is doing what it's always done. Centered their experiences.

It's long been said by our naysayers that the Neurodiversity movement is for "high functioning" Autistics. An idea we say we reject.

But these are the moments when that internalized ableism present themselves.

But I see what the Autistic community is doing today to respond. And I'm deeply troubled.

Reframing to the Autistic people who can model personhood does very little to help the Autistics who will be subjected to HHS policies that come rolling out.

What about the people who don't meet standards?

When I heard what RFK Jr said, I remembered we talked about how his rhetoric was scary in thinking about filicide. What it would mean for us and how people see value in Autistic people.

It is something I've watched from my uncomfortable seat in TX. A place I love and struggle with.

I think one of the hardest things about my exact "lived experience" is that I have an uncanny ability to say what's about to happen.

Unpopular opinion

I'm getting tired of everyone talking about DEI going away. It never truly existed in the first place for the majority of the people it was meant to help. Only one demographic benefitted.

Working in this space for well over a decade, most DEI efforts failed to address inequity.

I couldn't do it again. It's been over a decade since we started. We talked about it on the next podcast and Morénike listed the names for this year alone. But the producer is late dropping it because of going on vacation so it'll be a week late.

O has a cold and doesn't want to go out. So decided to use my free weekend time revamping my oglatimer website. I'm pretty proud of what I have designed. It's basically like a big repository of all the things I've done that I can remember and are still available online.

Just saw @netflix.com new immersive experience is opening here in Dallas. Went to find out what it was and on their website they show @squidgames.bsky.social as a thing inside this. And so I am left questioning, why???

I got an ad for some AI glasses named Halliday. It make me think someone missed the point of Ready Player One.

I'm not sure how this will land... but does anyone else get real Swordfish (2001) meets Hackers (1995) vibes from the haphazard rushed dismantling of the US government? Like the people doing it feel like they're acting out their own main character fantasies?

I was talking to this guy at karaoke last night for the second time. He was looking for answers why he reacts the way he does.

He also had all the language of a familiar subset of the Autistic community. One I know too well.

What got me... He was still looking to improve and understand himself.

I forget that when I explain things, it becomes clear that we're serious and well informed. Also, it feels good to start the process to hopefully build local infrastructure.

Sometimes I really love my job.

I'm starting to reach out locally, and I was asked if I've connected with a local provider. I explained how that our target population was different. The person understood.

Like I know I know my work well, but I often forget just going day to day.

Plan for how you're going to respond. Create your infrastructure. Then you're ready to act as soon as it happens.

When there's a lot of avenues being used to end with the same goal, it then means determining which course can be influenced by activism.

None of this react to everything when it starts. Instead, you look at where your influence is going to maximize impact.

It's not sustainable because no human body can keep up with the flood of endorphins. It is just not physically possible. This means as you go about your activism, it becomes important to decide when to ask your community to act on something.
