We do know what works & the new Exec Order not just allowing but incentivizing communities to actively harm people ISN’T IT!

Helping people pay rent & giving them access to support services ends homelessness. We must protect people and join the fight against this inhumanity.

Underappreciated aspect of Senate Republicans' unfunded mandate for SNAP: they're setting states up to fail. The amount is tied to a state's SNAP error rate. But the bill:
-Cuts federal $ for strategies that reduce errors *in half*
-Adds new & error-prone red tape requirements

Robodebt used administrative data to identity potential welfare overpayments. At the heart of the Robodebt algorithm was a faulty assumption: that people's income was stable. (Current US proposals for work reporting requirements in Mediciad make the same faulty assumption). The assumption was reasonable for those with salaried jobs, but unreliable for welfare recipients working changing or sporadic hours.

One of the bad assumptions that fueled automation in the Robodebt case was that people had steady jobs with consistent salary that would allow the averaging of income estimates. Just want to note that Congress is making the same bad assumption in its proposal for Medicaid work requirements.

Misunderstood sleeper issue in OBBB cld mean the end of #SNAP as a national food assistance program available in all states. The cost-shift drafting means a state that can’t pay its share of benefits loses ALL fed $; a state that can only pay Β½ has to cut enrollment by about Β½.

We also ran numbers by state. The results are staggering.

The frame of "left-leaning economists" isn't useful here and serves to undermine a robust evidence base. Right-leaning economists would read the evidence on work requirements the same way.

Where people's opinions diverge is on how *acceptable* it is to kick eligible people out of a program.
