Ah, nice one. I'd go with TF IV over III, and Sonic 2 (the vs battles were endless fun). Didn't remember there was Castlevania! Flashback was something else indeed. The rest I didn't play. The Street Fighter ports for the 16 bits were awesome, but I guess they don't count.

Pretty hard to do a fair comparison when those games were experienced by our young selves. I'd still say that ALTTP, OOT and super mario world are something else. But if I'd played BOTW 30 years ago my head would explode. What genesis titles do you think still hold up?

Was this person boasting about using an awkward excel+pp combo to generate simple plots? Congratulations for wasting time mastering the wrong tools for the job, I guess?

In other news, somebody somewhere proudly demonstrates how neatly can they crack nuts with their asses.

"Maybe admitting that a widely used treatment, like antidepressants, has messed up thousands of lives is too much to contemplate" #pharmsky #medsky #madsky

Has anybody both really watched the discussion and is aware of the evidence behind antidepressants? I doubt it.

Careful, they found 88% health related answers wrong in an experiment where they purposefully programmed the LLMs to provide wrong answers, to show how easy it is to manipulate them.

I'm going to be honest here, I think AI is going to do so much damage to the usable internet that even after it's inevitably crashes out, it's going to take years to disentangle from every space it's polluted, like digital asbestos it's gonna be time consuming effort and likely expensive venture.

There’s no room whatsoever for nocebo effects in acute withdrawal symptoms, which take patients unawares of what in absolute hell is going on, and happens with a range of substances. But let’s baselessly hypothesise about the unknowable extent to which it may be influenced by...patient’s anxieties?

18.06.2025 16:40 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

There just is no evidence that these patients were psychologically attached to a drug that they believed to be beneficial (whose discontinuation/reduction would lead to nocibo effects). And less that they were conditioned to believe that reducing or stopping the drug would lead to these problems.

We talk about things like hypersensitivity to light, drastic and sustained loss of appetite and weight loss, anxiety and panic attacks described as *nothing* like they had the misfortune of ever experiencing before, akathisia, muscle pain, and brain zaps among quite the list of horrors.

Utter tosh. Unhelpful too. We have armies of patients who describe a very intense and to a large extent common set of symptoms, who must be the most sceptical population about the supposed benefits of taking antidepressants or benzodiazepines.

The Black Box Myth: What the Industry Pretends Not to Know About AI | TechPolicy.Press Tech Policy Press fellow Eryk Salvaggio says it's a problem is that those of us outside of the AI industry don’t know what rules they are following.

When LLM's commit "crimes," there's never a motive. Yet the press & industry assert the "black box" frame at the wrong level of AI: suggesting moral decision-making, rather than the hidden logic of flipping neurons. My latest in @techpolicypress.bsky.social: www.techpolicy.press/the-black-bo...

A generation of women over 50 stuck taking antidepressants A quarter of women in their fifties and sixties take antidepressants, and 15 per cent of women over 50 have been on them for longer than five years

INVESTIGATION: 7% of England -3.8m people- have been on antidepressants for > 5 years 💊

While effective for some, long term use carries risks + raises chances of withdrawal when stopping, leaving some feeling "trapped" on the drugs @thetimes.com

Everybody getting mad about this needs to actually read TFA: archive.ph/iR2Ba If you are one of the 40% of people who get debilitating side effects on a standard taper off psych meds -- which the founder was! -- and you ask your doctor for a custom program, they are going to give you a 🤷‍♀️.

Yeah, to be fair, I have little sympathy for the current model of academic publishing. I don't know what the solution is, but I find it increasingly hard to justify lending my time for reviews. Sure, I'm aware authors are kind when asked kindly. Thank you for the link---too technical as expected.

Stunned that they do this. Like, funny way to help promoting the book.
The title caught me eye as only recently I read something non academic about interpretations of quantum mechanics. This would surely go way over my head, but it sucks that I can't even check out the review to tell.

K2-18b is back in the news, now with a bold claim that biosignature molecules (DMS and/or DMDS) have been 'detected at 3σ'.

Most exoplanet astronomers are extremely sceptical about these claims, let's see why (1/n).
