King's College, Cambridge
Winter evening in Cambridge. And a rare clear one at that! The distinctive towers of King's College rendered in silhouette just as the sun was going down.

Just got the book a few days ago and it's brilliant. Well done!

Lindisfarne: a bit naff as a day trip, but wonderful as a place to stay for a few days. (The locals call it "Holy Island" rather than Lindisfarne, but that makes me think of Holyhead instead.)

Ellis River at Pinkham Notch
New Hampshire, in the White Mountains close to the foot of Mount Washington. I clambered out onto a large rock in the middle of the river, risking many thousands of dollars of camera gear, to get this shot!

The Mountains of Mordor
Actually the Dolomites in Northern Italy, but I couldn't help but think of the Lord of the Rings when I saw this.

Fungus and Moss
I'm always on the lookout for fungus when hiking. It can make for intriguing compositions and it's fun to examine closely something you'd normally pass by without noticing. Taken in Moses Cone Memorial Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I just tried finding this spot on Google maps and it turns out they've done Street View images of this part of the Pennine Way. And it only took me a minute or two to find the exact spot! It's at 53Β°46'39.0"N 2Β°04'56.3"W if you're interested.

Oxford Circus
I took this 7-exposure HDR shot using the camera on my Android tablet. I like the way it conveys the intensity of this busy part of London.

This is St. Martin's Lane in London after a light rain. The English National Opera building is in the background.

Lady's Slipper in New Hampshire
OK, it's just a flower photo. But Lady's Slippers are some of the toughest flowers to photograph because they insist on growing near totally non-photogenic backgrounds. This is a rare example of one that cooperated.

This is a reflection in the river Cher of one of the most famous chateaux in the Loire valley in France (and certainly one of the most photogenic). Taken during a week-long bicycle tour of the area.

Hiking through the Dolomites in northern Italy. Scenes like this reminded me of some of Ansel Adams' great photographs of Yosemite valley.

Kings College Chapel, Cambridge
A combination panorama/HDR shot made from about 6 separate photos. (If you go to Kings College Chapel, you'll find the best interior light comes on cloudy days.)

Well, the original "no kings" day did take place in London in 1649...

Bath Abbey in Fog
Old-school film photo of Bath's famous abbey on a foggy day in January. Bath is still one of my favourite British cities to visit, though I haven't been there in a while. Might be time for a revisit...

I love getting ceilings in places like this (and marvel at how they were constructed at a time when there was no modern technology).

The next best thing to clear, blue skies? Dark, brooding skies. (The latter being more common than the former in this part of England, I'm afraid.)

Taken while hiking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path a couple of months ago. Dale is a lovely seaside town which we very much enjoyed. The castle is private property on the outskirts of town.
