Sunrise was kinda ridiculous this morning.

Happy birthday BikeBike! Thanks for setting me up with an awesome bike 16 years ago. Still love this bike.

Received a bird feeder camera for Christmas which is super cool. But because the ground is frozen, the only place I have to install it is a bit too, let's say, convenient. So for now it is an awesome squirrel cam until I can move it in the spring.

Which unfortunately means good and sloppy on the way home.

Good old Calgary, I bet it warmed up five to ten degrees Celsius over the time it took to ride to work. It was downright balmy when I arrived at the office.

Better than average on the Elbow River pathway from the reservoir to Stanley Park. Well cleared and the remaining snow was smooth and compacted.

Got to Riverdale Ave and a bike finally passed me. He must have been right on my wheel. Downside of the limited peripheral vision with goggles, but man - ring a bell or something and let me know you are there.

Kind of a weird one - for a lot of the ride through Sandy Beach park I had a feeling there was someone behind me. Extra lights in the dark, faint sounds. But I was wearing goggles so I couldn't see right behind me when I turned back.

Chilly ride in, but spectacular conditions. Pathways were cleared and hard packed. Even the roads weren't half bad.

I've left my holiday lights on the bike (they will probably be there all winter) and the number one place I get comments from folks about how much they like the lights is when I am riding past the hospital.

Maybe a coincidence, maybe it makes someone's day a bit better.

Proposed apartments above the Ship & Anchor? 25 years ago me is intrigued.

I'm hardly ever a passenger but this morning I took an Uber to the office. You see interesting things, like other drivers full on watching YouTube on their dash mounted phones.

We're doomed.

A small victory, the revamped Sandy Beach hill has thus far resisted its usual glaciation. Water is draining away nicely.

I tipped extra because it's one of my fave cafes.

Also, dude never looked away from his phone and couldn't be bothered with any common courtesy. Yes, I'm judging you.

Stopped for a cappuccino this morning as a little Friday treat. The guy ahead of me has an eighteen syllable coffee order, plus a pastry and breakfast sandwich - $22 and no freaking tip. I'll admit that tipping has gotten out of control but throw the barista holding it down alone at 7:00 am a buck.

Lovely morning.

Half an hour well spent. Drivetrain cleaned and lubricated, shifting much better. Wiped the worst of the salt and dreck off. Even tidied up the pretty foul panniers.

Other than that, pretty smooth sailing from the hospital to Stanley Park.
