What Made Blogging Different? Whether I like it or not, the first line of my obituary...

Talking Points Memo is turning 25 and I wrote a little encomium to early blogging, which I sometimes miss: talkingpointsmemo.com/tpm-25/what-...

This memo from Slacks founder Stewart Butterfield (and the thinking behind it) is a great example of a story about delivering fantastic UX into the world.

Opinion: The premiers are using bike lanes as a political scapegoat Safe cycling infrastructure saves lives, but sadly, many politicians are ignoring the facts

Oh wow, you have the poncho! How do you like it?

I was admiring @cailynn.bsky.social’s rain cover this morning (just for passengers, not the poncho).

Still waiting on mine (back ordered!) but it was only spitting so we were fine. 🙂

Did you have a screaming toddler in the bucket leaving yesterday? 😅

I meant to say hi but you seemed busy!

Exactly! Would be fun to make a friendly competition out of it. 😇

Had five conversations with curious parents after taking the cargo bike to the playground this morning. Two outside daycare yesterday. #yycbike

@bikebikeyyc.bsky.social can we get personalized QR code stickers and setup a friendly leaderboard for tracking referrals? (I’m only half joking here lol)

Signage is fine but I don’t think any amount of signs will keep people from parking in front of the curb cut.

Needs some bright green conflict paint and a couple bollards at a minimum.

A bike lane that turns into the road with a parked car.

A bike lane that turns into the road with a parked car.

Always love this turn on the new Bridgeland #yycbike lanes that dumps cyclists into a line of parked cars (the Mazda and Hyundai in this picture).

There was a ticket on at least one of the cars today but this is clearly a design issue, not an enforcement issue. @311calgary.bsky.social @calgary.ca

AI saved the feature factory When outputs are valued above all else, hallucinations and slop aren't bugs — they're features.

In the ZIRP era, tech optimized for "velocity" because it's easy to count the # of features you released, and hard to measure real value.

When interest rates went up, they began to realize that's fucking stupid.

But just in time, AI became a cheat code for infinite money - and infinite velocity.

A real failure from our councillor in Ward 7. Hillhurst and Sunnyside are basically shut out of this list.

Agreed. Transportation should never require difficulty ratings.

Wayfinding should be useable while riding — we don’t expect drivers to get out of their car to read the exit sign.

Small fonts. Lots of details. Below eye level.

Most signs the city puts in for cyclists look nice but are only really readable if you get off the bike.

Growing western alienation is a tantalizing storyline and it gets clicks and eyeballs, I'm sure, but it is not borne out by the facts.

Alberta-first identity is on the decline, not increase.

Ok I’ve done the ski and cycle in the same day but have never seen this before lol.

Love this so much. Great photo.
