Before COVID, I used to take a long weekend writing retreat in early to mid-February, when things tend to be at Peak Whinge. A Gulf Island B&B, usually. I should revist that - something to look forward to.

And if anyone stumbles upon this, with experience in navigating the line between an academic public persona, and a Comms staffer for the same institution, I'd love to hear from you.

It may not be possible to be both an advocate scicommer in my research life, and a faculty Comms staffer at my day job. The line between voices may be too blurry. But I'm going to find out, as both are deeply important. Much consultation to be undertaken on either side.

The past two years have been head-down building years. The coming year is going to build UPON that. A lot of shifts need to happen. One of those is to be more vocal, with a larger academic online presence and network.

Off to a small New Years' gathering with old friends - old enough that we would all like to be back home and in pyjamas by 10 o'clock. Kettle is ready for when I return, and a new journal and pen laid out waiting. A matched set, despite being gifts from different people! They know me so well. 🫖☕ 📖🖋️💖

Then I woke up properly and came to my senses. ADHD + perimenopause, and a thesis-writing term coming up.
