I keep seeing it - this is meant to be a bi-directional cycle track, and there were multiple other options for sign positioning (including a central reservation). The gendered abuse I get while riding a bike and the weaponised threats Iβve experienced from drivers all have a common denominator: theyβre abuses of power, perpetrated by people who do it because they can and because there is no real consequence for either.

A mobile VMS sign on a yellow trailer with orange barriers round it, half in a verge with bushes and half on a shared path with a dual carriageway immediately to the right. The sign says in orange lit letters "23 June - Sep Gallows Corner Works A12/A127 closed use diversion" and that is partially obscured by bushes.
Another day, another little erosion of space for people using the shared path on the @london.gov.uk managed #A12 in #Havering.
A VMS sign pushing people closer to 50mph traffic when there is a huge verge in the central reserve where the sign wouldn't be in the bushes.
Reported online.
Two days ago, I was cycling along London Road when the driver of a car behind me leaned on the horn, passed me closely, and his passenger shouted, "oh my god, ride me instead." I then watched him speed off and swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid me catching up to him. #sheffieldroadviolence

People regularly weaponise cars to threaten and intimidate, but itβs never treated seriously. We need to share our stories. #stopmotorviolence #stopviolencemotorisee

There are some terribly long waits in Sheffield and I can imagine the trams would be used as a reason not to, given the mazes of pedestrian barriers and hostile paving that surround the tracks.

The above are all very good and desperately needed interventions, but letβs be real: thereβs a lot more work to do before walking and wheeling are safe and comfortable options here.

Pedestrians are instead redirected away from their destination and crossing is accomplished in two separate stages, with a long barriered chicane in the central reservation providing more unnecessary distance and waiting.
This is a pedestrian crossing? Whoops, my bad - I thought it was a cattle chute!

Transport can seem like a nice-to-have, a niche area of politics and government, but in fact it fundamentally shapes our lives. If your only option is to drive, if your health is harmed by air and noise pollution, if you can't use the pavements or there aren't any... these are real daily concerns
